Heated mirror not working

Post by Nbev »

Can anyone help?

My drivers side mirror heater has stopped working but the passengers side is still working fine, anyone know if theres any common faults with these that I can check before I take it to the stealers?

My windscreen washers have also stopped spraying out even though ive topped it right up and i can hear the motor for it, any help on this problem too will be much appreciated.

Heated mirror not working

I’m not sure weather both mirrors are on the same fuse but I’d check that first. As for your washers, sounds like you may have a blockage or kinked pipe somewhere. I’d try looking for that before taking it in

My passenger side heated mirror stopped working years ago so I took it in to VW and they replaced it for approx £85.00. I think you can get the heated mirror glass relatively cheap and do it yourself. As for your windscreen washer I agree with swan that it is possibly a blockage somewhere in the pipe work before the split between the washer jets. Just had a quick search for the heated mirror glass and Autodoc sell them for less then a tenner if you have the big door mirrors fitted. I am not sure what the new smaller shape ones cost if you have them.

The mirror glass just pulls off, and there’s 2 connectors on the back for the heating part, check your getting power to it, then you’ll know if it’s a mirror glass issue or not.

Did you find the problem to your mirror not working as I have the same problem with my new van?

It is worthwhile trying to isolate the fault - assuming they have worked previously then the element may simply have burnt out. I have replaced two in 5 years. When I bought the second the dealer warned me to leave the setting to off position except when needed especially during the summer.

If neither heated mirror is working, then the chances are its a common mode failure so inspect the fuse and check you have not moved the switch to the off position whilst adjusting the mirrors.

If its just one faulty mirror then it is well worth DIY rather than asking VW to investigate - so carefully prise out the mirror from its mount. It is just clipped into place so you should be able to carefully insert a wide plastic(or with care metal) blade or spatula behind the mirror to release the mirror from its housing.

Carefully release the two spade connectors which feed power on the back of the mirror and then fire up the engine and use a multi meter to test for 12 volts across those two terminals when the heated mirror switch are set to on. If there is power - then the element inside the mirror is almost certainly broken so buy and fit a replacement.

No voltage means you have an issue downstream and need to check the fuse is OK and then circuit test the cabling to find out why.
