Caddy 1.6 tdi injector fail

Post by Gibbo2019 »

Guys I know you orob hear this alot but Sunday my injector no1 went on me.

I had a new injector fitted and now there is a knock/tapp when driving and engine under load.

Van has now been in my local garaged for a week with the cost going Up all injectors have been tested by a injector specialist and still a knock / tapp

Has anyone had this and found a solution I'm. Going out my mine with it all as don't have a big bank account

Also I have not had the emissions fix done as yet have been asked to get it done buy vw but was told its bad to get done??

Any help would be great just hope there is a vw specialist on here

Hi mate. A tapping noise is common with a new injector. This noise should go after 50 miles or so. Mine was still tapping and the garage gave the new stretch bolt another 1/4 turn. That did it for me.

Check whether the stretch bolt was torqued tight enough, theres a few figures out there and if you use the older/lower figure it will do that and sound even worse under load.

Have the garage coded the injector offset?
The tapping when applying power is very common when this is not set in the ECU.

The offset is the code from the top of the injector with an additional zero on the end.

Sorry to bring bad news but youve another injector on the way out. Check injector deviation at idle, injectors are allowed a deviation from -3 to +3. Common enough problem we came across when i worked for vw commercial especially after rhe 23r7 emmisions recall was carried out, 9 times out of 10 we ended up fitting a full new set. By the way if this has been carried out on the van within the last 2 years vw will stand over the injectors
