Salsa Red 2k Build progress

Post by Stvxrt »

Right guys. Pretty new here been following the caddy scene for a little while and now I’ve finally got my deposit (refundable) paid on a 2012 swb caddy plus.
Any common problems / things to look out for when viewing?

Hi mate. I’d try and find out if it’s had the emissions update done. If it has and I were you, I’d get an independent remapper to roll it back for you.
Usual diesel stuff.....EGR, DPF, turbo. Look for any signs these may be at fault....smoke, power loss, warning lights etc. If it’s had mods done already, try and check they’ve been done properly.
The older type injectors (part number 03L130277B) are known to fail sometimes. However, not everybody has issues. The newer type (03L130277S) are generally more reliable. If the van has 4 old type injectors, don’t let it put you off as like I say, many people have no issues. I just think it’s good to know what’s what.
Apart from that, usual stuff....condition, service history.
Good luck mate. Post a photo or two when you get it.

Thanks! Sounds like a quick look over it should do! 6 months warranty so can’t really go wrong and being trade I’ll get any other bits I need cheap
I’ll be sure to post with a few pics if I pull the trigger

Yes lost deposit. Police and bank have been notified so fingers crossed but I’m not getting my hopes up on getting it back.
Away to view a different caddy this afternoon private sale this time and no deposit

New van has been collected. Pictures to follow. I think there’s a problem with either the injectors or the timing. Will plug it into my vcds tomorrow. I don’t seem to have much luck with caddy’s

Here she is. Not the best pic I’m afraid. Gave her a scan with my vcds and it was the injector at fault. I’ve changed it out for a brand new one and seems to be running better now.
Waiting for the 1st of the month to tax it so that I don’t loose 20 days.

Axle flip is easy enough on a 4 post lift with lots of heat and an impact wrench. Everything comes in the kit with the coilovers. Stance+ coilovers are about £280 on eBay. I recommend buying new front strut top mounts too though
