Hampshire Caddy

Post by Papa Bear »

I’ve been on this forum for just over a week and it is causing problems!
I joined as I found some useful information about the Caddy and had recently bought my 1.6 tdi dog and was planning a few minor “mods” but now I’ve joined and looked at all the amazing things you guys are achieving, I want to do so much more to my own. My list is growing, my eBay watch list has gone from about 3 items to over 3 pages and my bank manager is starting to rub his hands together in glee.

I’ve just received my first lot of goodies off eBay, nothing big...yet, and am trying to stay sensible.

What’s arrived...
Blanking plug for front bumper tow eye (was missing)
Powered aerial adapter (the reason I was looking on this forum in the first place, to find where the aerial was hiding)
Reversing camera and extension lead
Rear bumper protector (bumper has scuffs which this will cover and need it for scooter ramps)

Nothing major yet but these were the important bits to get first that weren’t too expensive.

I’m not going to be lowering my Caddy, although it looks great, can’t afford it and bought it because of the height, couldn’t explain that to my fiancée and get away with it.
Most work will be interior work and am researching colouring the pillar trims etc and changing the headlining, plus saving up for cruise control and trying to find someone nearby to reprogram the ecu after I fit it.

Will update as I go and learn how to post pics but know this is going to take a while an£ probably become an obsession.

So to you all on this forum that have given me inspiration that I probably shouldn’t have had, a very big thanks :D

Started fitting my reversing camera today, first problem, the painted trim that holds the reversing lights has had two of the four bolts broken off and been fixed with mastic.
Looking on eBay for a new one.
Second problem, feeding the wire up the tail gate! Took an hour and a half but got there in the end. Onto the internal trims and need to remove the rear seat belts to get the trims off to run the wire... that is a huge tor’s head bolt!
Anyone any idea what size it is?

Moved on to fitting the new powered aerial adapter behind the stereo and it made no difference to the reception so need to take the mirror off to check the aerial. Will be browsing the forum for instructions tonight.

Simple install of tow point cover today, wish they were all that easy. Wing mirror coming off tonight to try sort out the aerial issues.

Very good work so far & I look forward to seeing some further mods in the future. I have owned my Maxi for nearly two years & only planned for a few simple changes. Thousands of pounds later & my list is still growing. This forum is very addictive & the vans within are stunning, it is no wonder we get carried away. Good luck.

What head unit does it have the reverse camera fitted too? Did you ru the cable down the headliner into the tailgate?

I’m guessing this is a Maxi Life rather than a Kombi. If so, are you keeping the plastic trim in the rear? I’m researching bed options for mine, I want to retain the trim whereas most “off the shelf” bed options are made to go around a wheel arch rather than the Life trim.

I’d be very interested to see what you come up with.

Yes it’s a maxi life, leaving the trims which means it is not a very wide bed, going to be snug for me and the Mrs. Needed to make the bench narrower than half width to be able to get a mobility scooter in too. I have made many drawings but they only seem to make sence to my warped brain and not other peoples. Trying it in the car on Tuesday, so will get some pics then to show you.

Put the bed frame in the back today to test fit. It is work in progress and may be totally remade.

With one leg extended. Middle leg not made yet.

Slot in the bit behind the seats is to fit the part that will fold down onto the seats.

That looks great - is the height the same as the folded seats by any chance?
