Was wondering about a remap and why VW never supplied the 4motion with a 140 horses like the 2wd 2.0.

Could it be due to the haldex not being able to cope with the power?

I can say the Haldex system on 4 motion Caddy's has no issues whatever handling a whole lot more power - and there are plenty of tuning specialists who can help you in that direction if that is really what you want.

I suspect that the primary reason VW tends to limit choices of gearboxes and engine power on the Caddy models is to protect their profit. A quick look at the list prices on Parkers, suggests the scope for profit on models from their car range will be higher than their commercial vehicle range.

Inherently a person just looking for a 7 seater could be weighing up the relative merits of buying many different VW models - Sharan, Touran, Tiguan, Caddy, Caddy Maxi, T6, Crafter. By ensuring their van range offer only comes with lower power engines and limited creature comforts, it will help limit the diversion of potential sales to their less profitable models.

Thanks SnoWhite, good to know I can pack a few more horses under the bonnet. I was probably going to go for around 150 although 200 odd could be fun.

I've started another thread asking for suggestions for a tuner although not yet had a reply, do you know of any in the Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire area?

Sorry I do not know about tuners in Dorset. However I am sure a visit to Pendle Performance (Lancashire) will radically change your Caddy. Call first as they offer a serious discount for forum members with cash. They also have authorised agents around the UK.

Lancashire may seem a long way to go but you might consider combining it with a holiday/perhaps to visit to the Isle of Man TT. Just book an upgrade so you have ample time to leave the van with them to sort out, whilst you grab a taxi and head for the TT. It should be ready when you sail back to Heysham and will save a heap of port-side parking costs. They will be happy to advise on power upgrade options - you can go really mad if you have cash for extra's like bigger intercoolers and turbos, but if you just want to stick with your existing hardware and stay uber safe - just remember those 2.0 engines are basically the same as the 170hp engine in the Skoda Superb - so an upgrade to that level will mean nothing is being pushed beyond the loads they are capable of handling.

A bit more power certainly makes overtaking a breeze in a maxi.

Have fun.

Thanks. Not really a fan of motor bikes, but a good suggestion that someone else on here could take up.

I will look into Pendle for a local agent.

Thank you.

I've just got one, a 2012 maxi. I'm hoping to lower it a bit so will post up how that goes when I get to it.

I have a 2013 purple caddy 4motion maxi.

You guys sure the caddy 4mo’s have a halex?
Cant see one on mine. Iv never bothered to scan for the haldex controller either which would determine weather it has one or not. But looking at my rear axle i cant help but think its permanent 4wd?

Anybody know ?

Yep!!! Found it.

100% got a haldex. No idea how iv never noticed that before. But then iv never paid attention to it or ever needed to i guess. Its never failed or needed any attention in the 4years iv had it.

Also so i just noticed its got x2 traction control lights on the dash too when you cycle the ignition. Guessing ones for front wheels and ones for rear wheels?
Iv never noticed them illuminate while driving tho.

Looks like the 4 motion on my 2012 maxi. If you have done nothing to it in 4 years the Haldex is probably overdue a change of oil and filter.
