Silent coat falling off
I’ve just gone into the back of my van and found 2 of the 4 strips of silent coat and super liner have fallen off the inside of the roof of my van. Has anyone experienced this before?? I have had a little bit drop off previously, and I’ve used spray glue to put it back on but this is a lot worse. I did clean the panels before fitting. Any suggestions welcome.

Re: Silent coat falling off
Did you use a roller for the silent coat...? It's worth warming the silent coat as it makes it easier to apply and sticks better.
Did mine in the winter so stuck a box on top a radiator before applying and haven't had any issues.

Yeah I used a roller mate. It’s been stuck on since January ish. I’m thinking the glue and heat of the day don’t get on. The van has been parked in the sun the last few days. It hasn’t moved.

Re: Silent coat falling off
The sun shouldn’t affect it. There is a minimum temperature for installing it 5°? I’m guessing if you did it in January it was to cold and never stuck properly
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is

Re: Silent coat falling off
I found silent coat to not be as sticky as dodomat. No problems with my 6mm super liner

Silent coat falling off
@beaker, you may have a point there. It’s still very sticky so I may have a play tomorrow. I’ve got some spray glue too so could try that.
@viralEye the super liner is stuck fast to the silent coat mate, that stuff sticks like nothing I’ve ever known!
@gary8 I will never buy marmite. Ever. EVER!

Re: Silent coat falling off
I had some silent coat sent to me with some speakers, and just found it not sticky at all but I only used it on the floor so wasn't overly fussed. If you can't get it to stick maybe get a roll of dodomat and just redo the roof?

@swanfiend, get some Evo-Stik Sticks like shit turbo if all else fails. This stuff is the best multi purpose adhesive I have come across. It starts to cure in 15 mins.

Re: Silent coat falling off
Get some Tech7 and squeeze some out onto a piece of cardboard and get something like an old credit card and apply it lightly where needed like plastering and reapply the sheet.
If some excess comes out, use some brake cleaner and it will clean right off.
I love Tech7 some much easier to work with, I used it to fit my spoiler and new reg plates yesterday, really good stuff.

Re: Silent coat falling off
Cheers for that mate. It looks like decent stuff. I’m annoyed to be honest, as the silent coat doesn’t seem up to the job for sticking upside down......it’s not exactly cheap like.

Silent coat falling off
Ahh I understand you’d be annoyed as it’s not doing 50% of the job it’s meant to do.
I love the stuff, works everywhere, easy to work with and no mess with over spills like silicone as brake cleaner, white spirits etc will clean it right off.
We have box’s of the stuff in work for working on the horse lorries.
We service a lot of Equitrek box’s and most of them are held together with Tech7
