Right so I’ve kept the wrap, might use it one day.

I ordered some of the headlights from travelin-lite today that are due for delivery on 16th March. Windscreen is being replaced on Wednesday.

Headlights were waiting for me when I got home.

Windscreen has now been replaced. I ordered an airtec intercooler to go behind the mk7.5 gti bumper last week.

I’ve been asked to fit the bumper before it’s painted as it’s slightly warped during the plastic welding process so I’m going to spend a few hours fitting the intercooler, headlights and front bumper (in primer) when the cooler is delivered. Paint is going to be the best part of £1k I think but the van will be fully de-textured and colour coded for that including VAT.

I’ll pull my finger out and get the brakes painted and fitted soon, maybe when I am stood down from work to isolate, inevitable as I work on London public transport. Hopefully age is on my side at 28.

In other news the government have extended the IR35 legislation so, where’s that TFSI.... on the look out for a MK5 dsg gti? K04? Hmm....

Oh and Stan has kindly posted the looms and module for the wingback heated function!! Need a solid week on this thing to fit everything. I have the following to do list:

Fit towbar and electrics
Fit leisure battery
Sort all of the aux electrics
Finish carpeting
Fit heated seat loom and control panel
Upgrade front speakers
Fit rear speakers into ply
Carpet ply and attach
Plumb in a new rear view camera to a switch rather than the reverse select feed
Fit all in the above post
Make floor
Make roof panel with lighting
Sound proof cab
Fit curtains

There is more but I’ve forgotten....

So I managed to get the intercooler fitted, headlights and the front bumper. On Saturday I fitted the towbar - just need to wire it all up. The towbar wiring is the thing stopping me from fitting the ply lining on the O/S.

Dropped the van off to get painted this afternoon. When I am back from work on Saturday it’ll be all done, list below.

Front bumper colour coded.
Rear bumper de-textured and colour coded.
Door handles colour coded.
Mirror caps gloss black.
Rear number plate light thing colour coded.
Rub strips de-textured and colour coded.

After that for the exterior it’ll be the 18z’s painted yellow with the rear callipers painted to match and a wheel refurb/new wheels.

I’ve been sent some photos by the painter. Absolutely love the van now. If I can find a cheap mk5 gti dsg I’m going to tfsi concert it. Seems silly to have spent so much money and have it looking so good with a 1.6 tdi!

This is the first coat of primer.

First coat of paint.

How I left them last night.

I’ve still got the rear spoiler, Touran rub strips, number plate light trim and mirrors to do but they’ll be done slowly over Xmas. Might tackle the door handles once the rear are done. Then front and rear bumper but I’ve got to buy the front bumper yet.

Vans looking lovely. I'm interested in getting some rail covers for my ex BG Maxi. Where did you pick yours up and did you need to change the actual rails or did the covers just fit on?

Been a while since I updated this. Not really done much other than drive it to work and back.

I did finish the towbar wiring, got to tidy the 12v feed from the fuse box up but I’ll do that once I get to the cabin stuff.

I’ve also done other little bits like replacing the window switch surround.

Had 1000-1500kg(ish) on the back today, van handled it very well!

Can’t update with photos as I can’t wash it, got about 2t of gravel on the driveway as I’ve been doing the garden. Dogs and their mess had ruined the grass, bought the trailer to shift some stuff and allow me to pick up the wood required to build a proper shed!

In other news I am looking at a 2014 Mercedes Sprinter recovery truck tomorrow to shift a few things. I’ve been offered a Mk5 R32 for dirt cheap that’ll need picking up from London and then I’ll need to collect a gti for the conversion and be able to move the van/gti to the engine conversion place. I’ll use the R32 whilst the van is being done then break the rest of the gti.

Anyway here’s another picture I quite like.

Hi Dino,

I honestly can’t remember where I bought them from. I think it might just have been eBay - make sure you get either maxi or Swb ones as they’re different. I painted these in the garage and they came out really well! Worth £20 in paint to try yourself.
