Starlight Blue thread

Post by rich181 »

I didn't plan on creating a build thread as I didn't really expect to do too much to the van. Then I started reading this forum...

Picked up a nice 65plate mk4 in February to use as a daily driver, not as a works van, but mainly to carry drums around in the back so wanted it to be pretty nice on the inside.

Started off with the Touran carpets front and back, what a difference they made! Bit of sound deadening and it looks and feels so much warmer.
Really easy to fit too, struggled removing the accelerator pedal due to the build up of stones and dirt in the holes, but got there in the end without breaking anything.

Next up was the audio. I have always changed the speakers in all of my cars since I was 17 so the paper door speakers had to go. Picked up a set of Phoenix Gold with tweeters from Skipton Car Radio and I am so pleased with the clarity and richness of the bass. I also added as much sound deadening to the doors as I could and that definitely helped. Doors even shut nicer than before.

Thats a really nice colour. I'm thinking of a colour change for my project once I've finished repairing. Can't decide what colour though

@R8umar
I was pleasantly surprised when I went to have a look. Got a nice sparkle to it in the sun, looks purple in some light and grey in others.

The first job I actually wanted done was the rear carpeted.
As much as I admire so many people doing their own jobs on the carpeting, and making it look easy, it wasn't something I was going to attempt myself so booked it in with the guys at GoExplore Campers, S.Wales. Very friendly guys and reasonably priced compared to some quotes I had from around this area.

And to go along with the name of the colour I had to get some fibre optic stars in the ceiling, wired to come on/off with the ignition and an extra switch for when they get annoying!

@R8umar it really does. So much warmer and quieter.

They covered every piece of metal which was good, as the part around the window had an annoying scratch on one of the doors.

Thanks man, its pretty relaxing to watch it. The unit is hidden behind the pillar trim so easy to get to if I need to take it out of fix it.

Got the GTD seats fitted with an airbag loom from tommyzoom. They are heated too but will think about getting that working for a future mod.
Nice easy job with touran bases. Due to the bulkhead removal, I was able to move/tilt the seats back further than I would have before so can get a nice comfortable seating position. ImageImage

Thought I would kill some time painting a few of the interior plastics to match the paint. I am fairly competent at spraying wood but a newbie with plastics.
Was it worth the effort? Not really lol.
