Wingback Gti's, R32 then upgraded R36 power and 4 motion for my pure grey

Post by hef355 »

Bit of an update today on the 4 motion!

So subframe bolted up and reassured on how its sitting without shocks at mo. Also enough room within the arch for my shocks. Bit more welding done and stainless sheets coming tomorrow so will make mock tank as pattern. Slowly but surelyImage

@James400

Ye think so for now J mate, got plenty of room between inner arch and wheel for shocker and it sits fine on the H&R old springs for now till my KW come!

Bloody 316 sheets not in now till Tuesday so making a tank this weekend is out typical

@hef355
Was thinking about your issue with those front arms you posted about on james400's build thread. Just spitballing some ideas but could you make new arms instead of modifying the originals? They're only pressed steel so if you used some cdc engineering grade plate and tube you could make something relatively simple thats as strong so you can also use stock sized front bushes.

I doodled something on the computer and hopefully it will convey what I'm talking about and maybe others with more engineering knowledge can tell us why its a stupid idea :lol:

@dan@biali

Wow Dan you are a wizz kid on that PC for sure! Yes it has crossed my mind to make a new bracket buddy but one that I can adjust so I can centralise my wheel perfectly. A bracket like you’ve drawn but tubular like a thick drop link so I can adjust it. Am I overthinking this or is there any merit in what im thinking lol??

Offered the RS3 exhaust up today too and a mock up tank was made out of the old A3 Audi tank. Hopefully my 316 sheets come on Tuesday and I can make a tank at my mates workshop where he has a sheet bender!

Thanks Dan, your help, and everyone else’s is very appreciatedImageImage

I did toy with the idea of doing a tubular version with an adjustable section like a tie rod. I’ll have another doodle at some point as it’s good practice for me!

Something a bit like this where you have opposing threads on the threaded portion - the centre 'nut' is fixed and the 2 either end are lock nuts

Thats exactly what I mean Dan ... just think it would be useful to have an adjusting arm! Thanks matey, i’ll see what we can muster up next week.
