Caddy newbie has a question about lowering kits

Hi, I'm due to pick up a 69 plate caddy this weekend and am already thinking of doing some subtle mods to the suspension. I know you can get the new caddy lowered from the factory however I was wondering what difference (excluding ride height) there is with this over an aftermarket option. I'm not fussed about coilovers as I don't think I need the extra adjustment however was a bit cautious over the rear axle flip. Does the factory lowering also involve the axle flip or do VW engineer the lowering of the rear differently? Any advise would be appreciated.

Hi mate, I’m pretty certain that VW flip the rear axle also. I think it’s the only way you can lower the standard back end.
I think VW for the eibach lowering springs at those option on the front end. I haven’t heard anything bad about them.

Is the “factory” lowered suspension really a modification from the factory or done at the dealership. If the former I doubt it will be a axle flip as this is not a factory design.

Does anyone who has this please confirm

Factory lowered Caddy is only about 15-20mm lower than a standard, not that noticeable at all. Eibach kit is used to be VW approved kit (maybe still is) to lower without voiding the warranty if fitted at dealership.

I got a quote for lowering from local vw van centre. They would only lower to 35ml .I reckon that would do for me.when I saw ,two vans outside (lowered)
Which they said they had done.i understand ,if you have warranty,you can get your van lowered elsewhere, and not void your warranty, barring suspension related issues. So long as the work is guaranteed.

thanks all for the comments. I gave my local VW dealer a call yesterday and they said the same as @Seaview stated, that the lowering kit provides a 35mm drop and suggested this didn't involve an axle flip, although couldn't confirm 100%. I think I'm going to give this a try first as 35mm is probably enough for me. Price wise they said it's £416 for the kit plus £200 to fit. The also reckoned on a wheel alignment which is a further £75. Can live with the £416 for the kit but think I'll fit myself and save the £200.
Once I've done it, I'll post some pictures.

I got mine lowered by vw before I picked it up so as to avoid any warranty issues, they used the eibach pro kit.

Interesting that they used the Eibach kit - did they give you any option or did you specify that you wanted the Eibach? Is the pro kit still 45mm drop? looks a lower than that but might just be the picture. How does it drive now that's lowered?

Drives fine but I think I’m on my third set of front mudflaps and the splitter is not in great shape
Didn’t give me any options on lowering just said they could when I asked and the eibach box was in the van with the original springs in when I collected .

So... collected the lowering kit from VW this morning and as with you it's the Eibach lowering kit they supply (faceplam ). I had read on other threads that they use the Eibach kit but was thrown by the fact they said that the axle flip wasn't needed so assumed/expected it to be difference. Anyways, no real drama other than it's cost me a very small amount more through VW. Now to get on and fit it!

@Grantek, nice. can't seem to find them at that price now. Was comparing against places like Vanstyle who look to list them at £399 so figures £416 from VW wasn't the end of the world.

If you haven’t done anything with them and can return them I would. There up to £308 now, could save yourself over £100 quid. It says they don’t fit Caddy 4 but it’s the same kit
