Very Stiff Bonnet release cable

Post by Towner11 »

As above, my bonnet release cable is really stiff, it’s bloody hard to pull the lever to open it. Any advice on how I go about fixing it? Many thanks

Not a helpful reply but I had my garage replace it as part of a service when it snapped on trying to use it. They said it was a pain in the arse to sort out, I'd get it looked at before it goes mate.

New cable mate, you can try spray grease up inside but it will only last so long, it will eventually snap leaving you stuck

Have a look on here for the bonnet cable release mod in the how to's....its simple to do, using a couple of cable ties, which stops the plastic gubbins falling apart and leaving you up the creek of brown stuff.

Cheers all, looks will have to replace the cable then. It has broken the lever by the drivers footwell being so stiff. Done the cable tie trick too

Its easy fella....the oblong shaped bit is clipped under the scuttle by the catch.....pop it out, get a couple of cable ties around it, at each end, then pop it back..... Apparently, it has a habit of splitting open, causing much hassle getting the bonnet open, involving going in through the wheel arch liner and fiddling about. Ok if you're a gynaecologist , but I'm not, although I do like to keep my hand in and my ex wifes gynaecologist and her go back a long way etc, etc...
