Cruise control fitting DSG

Post by Dave9n3 »

I’ve just fitted stalk and steering control module. Got midline clocks (1T0920954C) as standard and already have the diagnostics wire (58 reg)

Original steering module was software (0101)
New cruise control compatible midline module is (0100)

Both modules old and new are the ‘type 2’

Original 1K0953549BQ
New 1K0953549BN

Have also coded engine module to accept cruise control

Coded in using the helper that pops up and I’ve got a couple of faults now. Wondered if anyone else had encountered.

Wondering if this steering control module doesn’t accept automatic transmission. I’m also not getting a cruise control light on the dash when I operate the switch (not sure if these clocks have the light) guessing I’ve got a module that isn’t compatible.

The faults I have are

01044
Control module incorrectly coded

00194
Ignition key removal lock
Electrical fault in circuit

02413

Switch for selector lever position P lock
Implausible signal.

Appreciate that helping to diagnose this stuff over the internet is a pain so if I’m missing any info that’d help loads please let me know and I’ll get it.

Hi Dave, I'll snip the important information from your question.

This is fine according to the Ross-tech page with module numbers and information.

The "incorrectly coded" fault is self explanatory. The module can "see" something it's not coded for or cannot "see" something it is coded for.

The "ignition key removal lock" having a fault might be that the connection was not good when the module was put into your caddy.
The "switch for....P lock" is strange, that's a DSG related fault, signal is from the selector to the steering wheel control module.
Did you check this was all ok before you started?

Do you have before and after Autoscans?

Issue with electromagnet in ignition
Or is stuck, or not work, or not connect
That is why SWCM see coding, but cant detect it

Pretty sure I saved a full auto scan a few weeks ago so I’ll try and upload the result of that soon.

I’ll also put up the coding list and what I did/selected.

I’ve been out for a drive and the cruise control actually works, but seems like there’s something it doesn’t like about the DSG.

I’m 99% sure I selected the right coding for auto transmission. Will update with the useful info ASAP, thanks for your reply!

The following table applies to Control Modules with Software Version 0101 or lower.

0?xxxxx: Vehicle Type
0 = Normal
1 = Special Purpose (e.g Taxi)
0x?xxxx: Transmission
0 = Manual Transmission
1 = Automatic Transmission
0xx?xxx: Steering Wheel
0 = Steering Wheel without Multifunction
1 = 3-Spoke Steering Wheel without Multifunction
2 = 3/4-Spoke Steering Wheel with Multifunction without Cruise & Voice Control
3 = 3/4-Spoke Steering Wheel with Multifunction with Cruise & Voice Control
0xxx?xx: Additional Equipment
+1 = Tiptronic (Shift Paddels)
0xxxx?x: Board Computer / Cruise Control System (CCS)
0 = w/o Board Computer and w/o Cruise Control System (CCS)
1 = with Board Computer and w/o Cruise Control System (CCS)
2 = w/o Board Computer and with Cruise Control System (CCS)
4 = with Board Computer and with Cruise Control System (CCS)
0xxxxx?: Rear Wiper
1 = Rear Wiper not installed
2 = Rear Wiper installed

ORIGINAL CODING IN OLD SCM =0010002
NEW ATTEMPTED CODING = 0010021

(Rear wiper is removed so decided to code this out at the same time)
I believe I don't have the board computer as I've not got the correct clocks for it

So your cruise control does work, just intermittent,?
If so, it's likely the fault in the DSG causing the cruise to disengage.

Definitely check the steering wheel control module is seated correctly for the faults you have in your first post.
Board computer refers to a trip control stalk, the right hand stalk with buttons for a trip computer.

Will do! The cruise control actually works spot on surprisingly! Only shows the light on the dash when it’s actually set and working.

My polo shows it on the dash as soon as the switch is in the ‘on’ position even if you’re not set at any speed

Yea, that's standard on the caddy instrument cluster.

Just re checked all the connections and powered back up again.

PRNDS still flashes at me!

Swapped back to original SCM and it’s fine straight away.
Maybe this module just isn’t compatible with automatic?

It seems so, maybe the SW version has some problem when on DSG.
An alternative midline module should be east to come by.

Finally sorted it.

Hopefully be of some use to others in the future. The module was wrong and for some reason didn’t work with the DSG.

I now used 1K0953549AF and it works fine. I’m sure lots of other modules will but might save someone some time or money.
