Have a look at @Barbel330 van for the reference example of what a Blackberry Caddy should be.

Been a while since anything has happened to my Caddy, hardly used it last year, working from home since March, and no bike trips or holidays. However MOT is due now after the 6 month extension from July 2020, and I've replaced all 4 tyres. The Brescia replica alloys were getting a bit tatty, couple of dinks and a bit of peeling lacquer, so decided on a change, now has Santiago replicas with new tyres.

Needs a seriously good clean. Next stuff to do is replace the side bars with side skirts currently on order from RK Designs, and is booked in at the beginning of February at my local car audio place for speaker upgrade & sub-install.

MOT tomorrow, had noticed that the high level 3rd brake light was only partially working with a couple of flickering LEDs. Picked up a new genuine replacement lamp unit £52.50 inc VAT. Removal of existing is awkward, 4 plastic clips on top, 4 metal clips at bottom. It's a one way trip really as mine broke during removal. Simple 2 pin connection for power and plastic clip for washer jet hose. Part number for 2017 Maxi Life tailgate is 2K5945087.

Also confirmed for week after next, installation of Focal IS165 front speakers, ICU100 rears and iBus2.1 active sub, and Dynamat in front doors.

Hey Mark,

Whilst your on the subject high level brake lights, I was going to post something up but you may be able to help me?

I’ve just noticed that on my high level brake light there is a bit of red rubber hanging out on one side from behind the light. I’m guessing it’s some form of rubber seal?

When removing / replacing yours did you notice the seal and was this part of the light or separate? I’m guessing from what you have said though the light may brake Getting it out if I only plan to change the seal?

Thanks Simon.

Hello Simon, yes that is almost certainly the seal, when mine came out it was the first thing destroyed (was red and rubber as you say) by the trim tool so maybe yours has been removed & refitted previously. On the new part, the seal is bonded to the red plastic surround. When I ordered the replacement there were no additional fixings or anything listed, so it might be worth replacing yours to prevent any water ingress.

Note part number above is for mk4 with tailgate, I recommend you check with TPS or VW before ordering, returns are awkward at the moment...

Hope this helps!

MOT passed today, after the 6 month extension. No advisories, shouldn't be too surprised on a 3.5 year old vehicle but was half wondering about the remap. Anyway, emissions well within limits so all good news.

Hey Mark,

Thanks for getting back to me and letting me know. Sounds like I’m going to need the full unit.

I tried pushing the red bit back in for the moment but if fell off!

I’ve also got a 2017 Blackberry Maxi Life so I’m guessing the part number will be the same? I’ll give my local vw van centre a tinkle and look to get it sorted.

Good news about the MOT, I don’t think I’ve ever a car where it’s passed first time. I’m used to driving old knackers!

Thanks Simon.

Yeah part number should be the same then, give VW the reg number and it’s sorted. Just be prepared for a bit of hassle swapping it over. Ref my MOT, it was the remap I was wondering about but no problems. Good luck!

Oh and when changing lamp, recommend you test both the tailgate wash and the brake light after connecting both up before pushing back in because it’s not coming out again.
