Engine bay clean - dead rat

Post by BritishGasBlue »

Sadly not just a euphemism for a bad smell. I removed a rat but it has left bits of fur and stuff

How much cleaning is safe in this area? Some water will be required to ensure I reach the whole affected area but what's the best household cleaning product for the job?

Some Jeyes fluid will do the job.

At least your lucky it was dead, our brother in laws pickup on the farm had the whole loom chewed by rats and required a full new loom.
We were told recently there’s something in the wiring that attracts the rodents.

I believe some wiring is coated in environmentally friendly soy which could be attractive as food to mice and rats but the main reason (I’ve read) is that their teeth are constantly growing and to prevent overgrowth they chew on things. Wiring also gives them something to hold on to as they’re chewing.

I recently also had a rodent in it. I immediately put a device in it for chasing away vermin.

these work well and are not too expensive

it is best to clean the engine compartment with an engine compartment cleaner and high-pressure cleaner. this is often done at the bmw dealer where i work, so it doesn't hurt.
