McCaddyGascars Build
Hey up all
This is going to be my build thread for my Caddy.
Its a 2015 1.6 Highline bought in Jan. Its on 30k miles and I already love it more than anything I've ever bought.
My cars have only ever been for transporting me places to ride my bike and I've done very little on the front of modding, just servicing and worn part replacing etc.
This caddy has now changed what I think of vehicles.
The build has started. I've no idea if it's mk3 or mk4. Registration sometimes shows mk3, but there's some parts from mk3s that dont fit!
ITS A MK4
Before I started doing anything to it
Once I got it home, out came all the ply lining
Then the flooring...
Cleaned all the panels floor and roof
I took to the wheel arches and started sound deadening them. I had no idea how to even start this apart from stick it on and hope for the best!
This worked out OK. Stuck more the the other wheel arch and then the panels
Now it was time to stuff some Diall insulation from B&Q (3 rolls) for the ceiling, all panel nook and crannies and also behind the drivers / passengers seat of which would be the footwell of rear passenger seats.
Thats done to the best of my abilities, now to carpet the plylining (never done this before either)
I flopped the top over, glued and stick, then folded the other side back on itself and worked down the panel. The corners where the hardest.
Carpeted the ceiling and walls so I then done all the panels that I removed before putting them back on. I like carpeting squares.
I didn't take a picture but I used Noico for the floor sound deadening. Then an acoustic barrier on top, before putting the plywood on that and then installing the carpet. Once I have time I'll edit this with the links to the stuff I bought. No idea what the brown panel tabs are called to order black ones instead. Small job for one evening is to Google this.
I carpeted the plastic cover for the barn doors as I didn't have any paint for it.
]
I'll upload pictures of the finished back soon.
Until then, here's an unfinished pic
I then got these mats aparantly made specifically for a caddy
They look and felt poor quality, so they went back and I got proper ones.
I've since installed some Caddy scuff protectors from Vanstyle
I put up the led profiles but the cables just dangle down for now. Haven't decided if I'm going to use a separate battery or hardwire in.
I also ordered some side repeaters and fitted them up in around 5 minutes.

Got a few things happening this week, so will take pictures and post up again.
I've never done anything before in this post or coming posts, but I'm trying my best.

Nice job on the carpeting mate. It looks really neat.
What are you future plans for it?

Re: McCaddyGascars Build
Thanks very much. I just went for it and hoped for the best. Bought way more than I needed just incase.
Big plans are
°build sliding bed
°lower it by "X"
°bigger wheels
°side bars
°roof bars
°splitter
°remap once it's out of warranty.
Small plans... I'll have to get them from my computer, there's so many! Will update the first post with these details.

Thanks!
I'm starting to run out myself. Just as well I can't travel anywhere to get more done. Saves me some money for now

Re: McCaddyGascars Build
Looking nice. You can hardwire the LED's into the ceiling light, unless you want the LED's to operate separate.

Re: McCaddyGascars Build
I never thought of that. Could be an option. Simply splice the positive into the positive wire and ground negative?

Re: McCaddyGascars Build
Have a read over this thread, its very helpful. The positive and ground get soldered into the terminals in the actual light. The LED's will function the same as the ceiling light. On/ Off or on when you open the door.

I'll get some today I hope.
Man I hope I've made the right choice.
Skipton Car Radio delivery just piped up!
Edit:
Needs lowering now though. It looks a little high at the minute, hope I've not spoilt it for now.

Re: McCaddyGascars Build
I've been a little busy as of late on my build. Little bits here and there.
I'm still currently on the stock head unit. I'm getting closer to wanting an aftermarket unit now. I want more power than 20w per channel as I'm now running the Pheonix Gold speakers and MAC tweeters (yet to be installed today) The Pheonix Gold speakers are very good indeed actually. The bass they produce is really rather quite nice. My head unit is a 1k8 035 150 e (standard unit) I'm not too fussed about android auto as I think MAYBE the radio is too low in the dash to use it as a sat-nav, I like using my phone higher up the dash to quickly glance at it.
OEM speakers pre sound deadened.
Riveted speakers to be drilled out
Rivnuts being installed
Be careful with drills....it caught my finger and tried to chomp it !
Replaced shoddy next day carpet mats with genuine VW mats, not even that more expensive...
Stuck on some metal kick protectors
Fitted Heko deflectors
(PIC COMING)
Installed custom designed hub caps on the RS4s
For now, this is where I'm up to.
I've got to decide whether to tune or install a better head unit..
