Deep Pearl Black MK4 SWB

Post by CiaranCasso »

Hi everyone,

I just got a Mk4 SWB caddy In deep black in late January.

It’s lowered with 19 inch GTD alloys and a maxton design front lip

So far I have had the seats retrimmed with leather and GTI tartan

Then came the speaker upgrade I mainly done this because I had one bad speaker in the drivers door but I’m glad I did as the VW standard speakers leave a lot to be desired! I opted to use alpine units which when spaced out are very tight to the door card but they fit just perfect - the silver foil added was dodomat sound deading to ensure a complete air seal around the speaker

Next on the list was to get rid of the standard VW radio which I replaced with an RCD360 CarPlay unit it’s a great 20 min upgrade and worth every penny of the 200 euro it cost to have good navigation!

Next on the list was an LED bar which I wired into the headlights for nighttime driving, I went with a Boreman 14” unit the difference at night is unbelievable due to the projector design of the reflectors! It’s also a smoked lens which makes it nice and discreet (just for note it is only mounted on temp brackets until I have the time to remove the bumper just before anyone comments that it isn’t straight)

That’s everything so far but a lot more is planned!

My current plans is a black headliner, ply lining the cargo area, carpet the cab side of the bulkhead and some other little nice touches!

Did you have to put any adapters on for the speakers?

New wheels fitted to the van yesterday evening!

18x8 BBS CH’s with 225/40 tires

Looks far better IMO and there is far more comfort on a long drive with the 18sImage

Would you be able to advise me a good quality speaker for the doors, with out having to do any spacing, just straight swap and would using the existing wiring be ok

I’m not sure on this to be honest, the rings to match these speakers in only took about 10/15 mins to cut out for both doors out of some ply board then I just pre drilled the door and screwed in!

The existing wiring is adequate but I had to solder in extensions as my connectors were on the bottom side of the speaker vs on top of the standard caddy speaker.

I probably will when I get the chance re wire the speakers with heavier gauge wiring the whole way back to the radio but that will be down the line!

I definitely is, I'd recognize that jet wash a mile away. Many a stop was made there to clean the daily dirt from my caddy.

Finally got around to treating the van to a few new bits and a proper good scrub down and waxing

Roof bars and wind deflector came from Storm Xcessories in Northern Ireland I would highly recommend them!

Sadly splitter number two had to come off due to yet another breakage Irish roads are great ImageImage
