My OEM+ Build Thread….
So….having recently purchased my first Caddy (details below) downsizing from numerous Transporters (T25/T3, T4 and a T5), I’ve decided to start a little build thread to keep track of things.
I purchased the van for only a few hundred pounds due to the high mileage (230k) and short MOT (Nov 21)
I bought the van off a retired teacher who’d had it for over 4yrs using it for her arts crafts bits and before that it was owned by the National Trust from pretty much new.
She sold it to me with “no history or invoices” which is another reason why it was so cheap. However, when I got home and stripped it all out I found a massive folder in the overhead storage FULL of history, previous MOT’s and…….an invoice for a full engine and gearbox rebuild lass than 30k miles ago, winner!
It’s also had a brand new battery, starter motor, fuel pump, and full exhaust
After finding the above I’m not so bothered about the milage anymore!
It’s a 2.0 SDI so it’s as slow as a slug but in pretty decent condition for a 2006 van.
I’m going to (try) and aim for the OEM+ look using as many VAG parts as possible.
I shall keep you all posted

Re: My OEM+ Build Thread….
First job was to give it a good clean and see what we’re dealing with.
Not too bad but the alloys could go with a refurb and the paint needs a good clay bar and polish

Re: My OEM+ Build Thread….
Next up was to get rid of those bloody stickers on the rear
Whilst at it I de-badged and de-wipered it. Looks a lot cleaner already
New bumper on order to freshen it up a bit and I’ll also be getting the windows re-tinted
The obligatory Santa Cruz sticker applied to go with every other MTB van build I’ve done!

Re: My OEM+ Build Thread….
The previous owner also had the seats comply rebuilt and upholstered last year at a cost of over £600 (more than I paid for the whole van!)
Not my personal choice of pattern but very comfy and absolutely spotless

Re: My OEM+ Build Thread….
Black roof rails and heko wind deflectors should be here this week ready for fitting this weekend.
Plans for the future -
.Lower it (sooner rather than later!)
.Side bars (maybe?)
.Mk4 rear lights
.Roof spoiler

You’ve got a bargain there! Not so much of a gamble as it first appeared either.
It looks tidy too

Cheers mate
Had to wash it 3 times to get it half decent! Looking forward to getting the clay bar out then giving it a good beating with the DA polisher

Re: My OEM+ Build Thread….
Removed the old crappy tint this evening and also fitted a smoked high level brake light.
Roof rails arrived today, will hopefully pop them on over the next couple of days

Nice one mate, looks a nice little van to be fair and cleaned up a treat. Once you have the bits done you’ve already listed what else do you think you might do??

Cheers mate.
Little tickle with the lowering stick then who knows. Probably not the Touran route as everyone is doing it. I like the OEM+ commercial look so something along those lines.
Im considering going self employed (AC/Refrigeration Engineer) so might do a bit of a Milwaukee setup in the back with my packout stuff
