All I’ve done to the van of late is maintenance. I had my timing belt changed a few weeks ago. Today I’ve just picked the van up from the garage I use as the EGR valve failed on Wednesday morning. It’s been an expensive few weeks!

Next will be having the bonnet and wing repainted at they’re both a bit of a mess, as always that’ll be a while off, hopefully early next year.

This is very true mate. No point being fur coat and no knickers, so to speak.

I had the van in for its MOT today and it failed on a drop link seal that had gone. Apparently it’s a result of it being lowered putting more stress on them.
Anyway fixed and passed. Next job will be a service in a few weeks.

Swan’s caddy build

Post by the swan fiend »

I had an advisory on my MOT about the front tyres, they were wearing on the inner edge so I booked it in for a wheel alignment. Had it done today. It needed minor adjustment, and the bloke recommended upping my tyre pressure to 40psi all round. Image

I’ve also ordered the bits to service it today, so providing they come on time, and the weather is ok, it’ll get done at the weekend.

My old wheelset had wear on the inner edges (fitted by previous owner) when I checked the pressures they was around 18psi , so obviously not kept them topped up.
New wheels fitted and alignment checked along with 38psi all-around.

Glad to see your keeping on top of the servicing from what I heard when you lower the suspension it throws out the steering geometry a bit so does need realignment

Swan’s caddy build

Post by the swan fiend »

@ Simon, that’s pretty low mate, it must’ve steered like a dog and used quite a bit of fuel!

@Hanyandy I’m a big believer in following maintenance schedules and using the right parts etc. Always got told from an early age that prevention is better than cure.

@the swan fiend Yeah ridiculous low mate, noticed it as soon as I picked her up.

Check my pressures around once a month .

I serviced the van today. Gave it an oil and filter change, plus fuel filter. I checked the air filter and it was clean. The cabin filter needs changing so I’ll get one next week and poo it in. After that I gave it a good wash as it was filthy.
Next jobs are to remove the scuttle panel and clean down there as it looks a bit dirty, and get the wheels balanced.

This weekends jobs have been to swap the wheels around, and clean out behind the scuttle panel. I decided to do it on my mums driveway as hers is flagged and better for jacking vehicles (mine is patterned concrete) Driving around Aintree where we live was not fun!!
