Wind driven vent removal and replace

Post by Singy »

Hi all

My new caddy has come with a wind driven vent mounted on the roof. I'm considering either removing completely or replacing with a low profile one.

If I went down the removal route does anyone have any idea what I can expect in terms of size of hole in the roof and if I can get any sort of 'grommet' to plug the hole? I'd rather not remove it without having something to immediately plug the hole with.

Any other cool ideas of what to put in it's place?

Many thanks

OK. Just had a thought. I could cover the hole with a solar panel that would trickle charge a leisure battery which would power a couple of USB ports.

Now, how easy is that to do?

I dont think there are any grommets big enough given the size of the hole cut in to the roof. Ive got a low profile one on mine and did think about plating it up

I’d go with a low profile vent. Vans do tend to get condensation in them in the cooler weather.

Right, low profile vent has arrived. Here's hoping the roof holes are of a similar size so I can replace in the same location without too much work.

Where did you get your low profile vent if you don't mind me asking?

I'm in the same situation. My cat keeps trying to get into my van through my Ex British Gas Side Vent

I kept the main body in the van so didn't disturb the seals on the body. I then cut down the main bolt where the vent spins around on to a suitable length so the vent sits lower. so say cut an inch off the bolt then see how the vent sits then trim more off if needed.

@Jasonpaul I got it from ebay. I've also found a conversion plate that will blank a hole up to 105mm with no extra drilling to then fit a low profile.

Hey, could you link me to the conversion plate please?

I’ve got a low profile vent and Sod’s law, the holes for the new one are more onboard than the original.
Cheers,
Liam
