A development with the van I wasn’t quite expecting…….I was having a conversation with a bloke I work with who’s mate owns a modded caddy. Turns out he had a set of the funky LED headlights that he didn’t want and I managed to bag them!
Well I got them today and gave the wiring a little tidy up. I’ll be fitting them in the next few weeks when I get the time.

I’ve got a few other electrical jobs that need doing too. Again, I’ll get onto them when I get the time.

Do you know if those resistors are for the indicators or the main beam? For indicators it should be ok, as they only turned on for a short time and flashing, i.e current flows only 50% of the time while they on. But for the main beam I would expect them to get very hot. I would check that mate.

Looking forward to seeing them fitted.

They won’t be for the main beam mate as they are bulbs. They’ll either be for the indicators or the sidelights/drls as they are the parts that are LED.

I do intend to check how hot they get in use and then I will look into moving them or maybe wrapping them in a heatproof material. I’m open to suggestions on what the best course of action will be regarding that.

Yeah, check if they get hot first. If they do, easiest would be to change them to a higher wattage ones (physically larger in size in simple terms), so they can dissipate more heat.
If they for DRL's then, if I remember correctly, Doc had some success with coding the bulb error out, so you can get rid of them all together.

I will be sure to check mate.

I know Doc has done a bit of bulb error coding in the past on my van, I have LED bulbs already in my side/DRLs so I think he may have coded them out previously. It had crossed my mind weather I could remove the resistors. It may be worth untaping the loom and checking what they’re actually wired in to.

The resistors are for the indicators

Also i didn't fit them to the side of the headlights thought they'd end up falling off so instead fitted them to the little ledge near the front grille .... 2 years still there with no issues.Image

I’ve just ordered myself a set of mk4 life wingmirrors from travelin lite. Hoping they arrive before Monday so I can put the covers into the paint shop as it’s going in for a repaint of the bonnet.

There’s a small list of jobs to sort out now:
Wire the reverse sensors to the correct side of the BCM after my mk4 light install.

Wire in a bulb to the registration light circuit to get rid of the bulb out warning light

Fit the new headlights

Fit my new wingmirrors once painted.

That’ll be it for this year……unless I can find the money for a remap. I’ll be taking it to DubUnit for this.

More to follow……

Get onto stedlocks for express delivery ;) will be good to hear your thoughts on the mirrors, I've always been a bit put off by the aftermarket mirror cover bit but if they're good then I'll go for those ones too...at some point

Yeah, I’m hoping @Stedlocks will see this

I’ll keep you updated on the fit mate. There are cheaper on eBay but they’re a full aftermarket unit. These have VW motors etc. just the glass and covers are aftermarket.
