First oil change.

Post by Deece »

Hey..

Doing my first oil change on a 12 plate caddy. Iv done motorcycles before but this will my first van change.

What exactly do I need? I know I’ll need to replace some seals etc.

Obviously i already have draining buckets and rags etc, just the technical stuff.

Oh sound. Well that’s a lot less technical than I thought. Cheers!

Also... You'll need a 32 mm hex socket to remove the oil filter housing top cap. I find it helps to disconnect the flexi EGR pipe where it goes into the intake manifold (5 mm allen bolt to undo) and then bend it out of the way gently. There's also a solenoid dangling in the way (either for the turbo or EGR changeover flap, not sure), you'll need a Torx bit for this. If you shift these things then it's much easier to get the filter elephant out without dribbling oil everywhere. I like to vacuum out the residual oil from the filter housing with an oil extractor but this is probably over the top for most people. Good luck!

probably obvious to 99% but no harm saying it - little bit of grease or oil on the new o rings before the housing goes back in will save you a potential future nightmare :D
