Re: Rear air suspension
I didn't know they did them for the caddy nor can I find a distributer of them, any links?
An alternative is what's called air bag helpers which is a kit with 2 air bags and the brackets needed, a full kit with compressor and controller is also available.

Re: Rear air suspension
Not sure of distributors as Monroe site says GSF car parts.
40 years ago I worked for a company that was a Monroe distributor MR Holland sadly no longer trading.
We regularly measured shocks to fit other vehicles and had a set of air shocks on a vauxhall chevane.
So I know it's possible but need an old parts supplier to access dimensions.

Air shocks are at the bottom they have the MA numbers.
If you find a UK distributor please let me know as I'm considering changing my homemade system for something easier.
I'll try and get my standard shocks out the shed and measure them for you.

Re: Rear air suspension
Great thanks for that looks interesting site.
Another thought if we find a Monroe shock with same dimensions and convert the part number to what it normally fits it may be possible to find another manufacturer that does something similar if that makes sense?

Re: Rear air suspension
So here's some measurements,
Fully extended between mounting points is 475mm,
Fully retracted between mounting points is 316mm,
The mounting holes are 14mm on the thick end and 12mm on the thin end,
The bushing surround is 50mm both ends,
The thick end is 50mm diameter,
The thin end is 40mm diameter,
If you or someone else with standard shocks can measure the bottom mounting to edge of thick end or even from bottom of the bush surround to the edge of the thick end while it's on its wheels we can determine the standing measurement between mounting points as I'll set one to the same and measure it.
If I can get some time I'll do the same for my current lowering shocks so i/we can determine if there are any air shocks suitable for lowered vans.
Ideally you or someone else will get the measurement from bottom to lip so we can work out the working travel from either side and work out the size needed for lowered vans without me having to take one of mine off.
Mine are Monroe shocks with an audi and vw badge on them, when I have more time I'll look at the list I posted earlier to see if any shocks in the range match the sizes I've measured.

Re: Rear air suspension
I see youve been on a few times since i posted, i sort of expected a thanks and a measurement to help my side of the search. It wasn't a 2 minute job finding those shocks out and doing the sizes for you.
Anyone else help out with a measurement from bottom mounting to the lip of the bigger diameter on a standard shock at rest with the van on its wheels?

Re: Rear air suspension
Hi measurement from centre of bottom eye bolt to lip of upper tube is 190mm o/s and 195mm d/s on my van when on its wheels, has got a bit in it but nothing heavy.
Front has just been changed for standard set up and sits a bit high not settled any after 100 ish miles.

Re: Rear air suspension
That's great, we can now work out which shocks ard duitable for lowered vans as well as standard ones.
Sorry to hear of your loss.

Thanks
Would a measurement between eyelets when on wheels help as well?

Re: Rear air suspension
It would make it easier on me for sure as I've now packed my shocks up as I'm moving house.
It's so we can work out how much travel either side of 'at rest' the shock has as I presume it's not in the middle of the travel limits.

Re: Rear air suspension
Give or take 5mm as it's not easy when van on its wheels 400mm centre eyelet to centre eyelet.
So as you say not in the centre of travel.

Re: Rear air suspension
Still mulling over what route to take, are the standard rear shocks oil or gas filled? Thanks
