Vibration under acceleration

Post by 150Mark »

I've got a 2010 Maxi 1.9 tdi bls that has been remapped. It's fine when driving normally but under hard acceleration there is a vibration and noise from the front wheels/transmission area. Has anyone else had this or know what could cause it? I was wondering about the lower engine tie rod{dog bone} or dmf? Thanks.

No, no rattles or vibrations when idling and pressing the clutch.

This happened to me a few months back. Thought it was my fly wheel, turned out to be a flat spot on my inner front tyre. I believe I got it from breaking hard as traffic up ahead suddenly stopped due to an accident. Didn’t help it was worn right down to they threads and it was a blow out waiting to happen. Might be worth checking your tyres?

The vibration only seems to occur when accelerating at around 2000 rpm.

if its happening at a particular rev not at any given speed would that not indicate engine more that wheel or gearbox

Had a similar issue with a cracked gearbox mounting subframe. It looked OK on casual inspection, but found that the mounting had cracked. Replaced the sub frame with a second hand one, replaced the rubber bushing, problem solved. Cause seemed to be a rubber bushing failure that allowed the ‘box to rattle around and break the mounting. Might be worth a check.

I appreciate this was a long time ago but did you ever get to the bottom of it? Same as my symptoms.

I have steering wheel wobble under acceleration and I'm putting it down to worn drive shafts. Its had new wheels, tyres and front wheel bearings and its still the same. Doing a six conversion so holding out until its all swapped out.

have you rules out tyre and wheel defects. Sometimes they aren't visible. Id rotate the wheels, see if it makes a difference

yh, I have. a pretty aggressive wheel wobble, under hard acceleration or at high speeds :shock:

But never at any other time, people who've hopped in the van said could be a bad wheel balance, but I had that done

@caddy,
in your case I'd want to see the wheels spun up on the balance. Could be a slightly buckled wheel. even if balanced could be an issue. Or a damaged 'out of round' tyre. A bad tyre fitter wont notice and can still 'balance' the wheeel. But you will still get a vibration. Usually if its minor, you will only notice it when under power, over 60mph.
I have had this on my car from a very slight wheel buckle..

Did you ever get a resolution for this?

Halfords said all the tyres and wheel balance were fine. I still get vibration under load when accelerating too fast. Could it be overfueling?

How's your tracking?
Ball joints and track rod ends are solid?
