Post by Mbgasplumbing »

Do any of you use engine oil additive like slick 50 or similar and if so is it worth it

As far as I’m aware, slick 50 is highly viscous. I’d have thought that replacing 500/750ml of low viscosity oil with that would not be great on the engine.
Myself, I’d just use a high quality oil and go for regular changes.

There’s a lot of different opinions on this though.

I always thought slick 50 was a petrol additive that was mixed in the petrol tank
I've not heard of oil additives but as long as you use what is recommended by vw at the recommended intervals you will prolong the life of your engine

Slick 50 is an oil additive yes, but as Swan said I’d go for top quality oil with regular changes instead.

My mistake well not a mistake but I remember adding slick 50 to petrol years ago I didn't realise there was slick 50 oil treatment as well but as they said before go with a good quality engine oil with regular service intervals

Appreciate your help guys I have not actually used any type of additive myself yet but it makes sense to stick with the regular changes as you say
