Barn doors issue

Post by DeanWhit »

So, I've had the rear painted and I assume the guy has had the door off or something because now the door open icon is on constantly and the door won't open from the outside if I lock it and then open it. It'll only work if I manually open the door first from the inside.

Any ideas?

Could be that the outside door handle is sticking slightly. Try pulling the handle down to see if it moves. I had this on mine, had to remove the handle cover to see and grease it.

But once I've opened it from the inside, the handle on the back door looks fine. There's a mechanism at the bottom that connects to the bottom door latch and I have to nudge it about a millimeter after unlocking for the rear door handle to work.

The painter will have removed the outside handle, numberplate lights and the plastic cover.

If you’re nudging the bar up a little it could be the handle sticking, loosening the handle/bracket a bit and then retightening might help.

My handle didn’t look like it was faulty and it only moved a fraction when pulled down. Sounds very similar.

Then again, it could be something completely different

I'll give it a go now.

This is the part I have to nudge from the inside to get it to workImage

Hi Dean, I had this same issue with my rear barn doors when I got them painted.
The outside handle would not always activate the opening mechanism.
The pic you have posted shows the same threaded rod I had to slight adjust. This solved the issue for me mate.

Hi @BOBO101 welcome to the forum.
The third from last post before yours has the solution to your problem if it's the same as I've seen many times.
