Re: Noise when turning at slow speeds
Hey I have a 2018 caddy 2.0 tdi highline and I have the exact same thing, humming noise and slight vibration coming through wheel and pedals when turning at low speed, as in parking or taking off from a junction. I have taken it to a vw garage on 2 occasions only to be told they can’t hear it and all cars do it. Basically get on with it. Did you have any resolution??

Hi
We have been experiencing the exact same issue with our 2016 Caddy. Have you checked the power steering fluid? And what type of tyre have you got on the front of the van?
We’re not sure what the problem is either yet but if we find out we will let you know.

Re: Noise when turning at slow speeds
I had similar when I swapped a steering rack and went for a test drive - I aligned the wheels, set the tracking etc and then it was ok.
Also, my wife's car has a rather similar noise, but it turns out to be the tire/alu wheel balancing, so it's not always the other parts

Re: Noise when turning at slow speeds
I'll join this chat in the hope there's an answer coming soon..
I've got exactly the same issue and have been to 3 garages so far (one VW independent specialist).
First garage: Sounds like clutch and/or flywheel but we don't do those here.
Second garage (independent VAG): Definitely not the clutch or flywheel because of reasons...sounds like gearbox bearings but we don't do gearboxes here. Here is a number of a gearbox specialist.
Third Garage (gearbox specialist) after a road test: Definitely not the gearbox, could be the engine mounts but I can't see one of them so can't commit.
Fourth garage booked next week, will keep you posted.

Re: Noise when turning at slow speeds
It’s great to see some traction on this, it’s driving me crazy! What I have noticed is when I’m turning in 1st gear and the noise starts….i press the clutch fully and the noise goes immediately so that to me would point towards clutch or possibly engine mounts…. Still unclear but would be keen to hear if ye all tried pressing the clutch mid sound to see if it responds the same

Re: Noise when turning at slow speeds
Do any of you feel a vibration through the clutch pedal?
Does it carry on doing it if you knock it out of gear whilst it's doing it?

I feel it through the pedals and through the steering wheel but if I knock it out of gear it disappears straight away

Re: Noise when turning at slow speeds
With something like, I would try to eliminate more possibilities.
Next I would check the wheels are balanced and the tracking / toe / camber is good. If the subframe was taken off or new CV joints fitted etc.in the recent past then it might not be aligned 100% which normally can be corrected by setting the tracking. Lost wheel weights or unbalanced wheels can cause strange noises similar to this.
You can normally tell if it's gearbox etc. by pushing the clutch down when the noise is there - if it goes away, then maybe gearbox/clutch related. Another possible test is to find a safe area, reproduce the noise, and then switch the engine off and put car in neutral to see if there's a difference..

Re: Noise when turning at slow speeds
ummmmm...
Could be a number of things, from clutch / gearbox /transmission to big ends starting to go.
What's the mileage on it?

The noise stays the same whatever the engine speed / revs?

Re: Noise when turning at slow speeds
Ya it seems to have more of an effect the harder I turn the steering but the moment I press the clutch it disappears
