Interior plastics? Can they be painted? Or any other options to change colour?

Post by Lilith »

I’m at the beginning stages of fixing up my Caddy’s interior. I’ve been and spoken to the company locally who I’ll be getting to reupholster my seats and do up the rear cabin, but he seems to think there’s no real way to change the colour of the light grey plastics that would be long wearing. Has anyone found anything that works? I’m doing the seats dark charcoal to match the dashboard but that light grey isn’t really part of my envisioned colour scheme.

I’m in Australia so our options are a little more limited as we don’t have the Touran over here to replace parts

They can be painted easy or you can try and find later model trims that are dark grey

If they’re painted, are they long wearing ? My van is predominantly for work though I’m not tough on my vehicles. Do you know what products are good so I can let them know? I’m talking to the guy in charge tomorrow to get a final quote. Thanks so much for the reply, I very much appreciate it!

Iv had mine carbon hydrodipped for 2 years and all still look brand new, not sure if that's an option for you, but I think most people use many very light coats of plastic adhesion promoter and the pro XL or UPOL range of paint.

The guy I spoke to said another customer had said something about having his dipped somewhere. I wonder if that was what it was. I’ll have to investigate. I was hoping to be able to have it all done at the one place but might have to spread it out, though I’ll mention those paints too. The boss I’m speaking to tomorrow might be more knowledgeable about it. Thanks!

You can get plast pt from Wurth
https://eshop.wurth.com.au/Product-cate ... en/GB/AUD/

depending on what colour you want to achieve there are two colour choices
if you sign up there is 10% which basically covers the GST portion
IIRC they are about $135 for a small tube but last a long time (coverage)

hope that helps

Oh that is helpful, thanks! That light caddy grey is really not my colour

I painted most trims mainly the light ones on the roof then I got a hold of a caddy life that had dark trims and swapped them all out even the door cards Image

I don’t think so? It seems to just be all light grey with darker grey polka dots I’d say.

I used plastikote paint to do the trims on my T4 and will be using the same when I change the colours on the caddy. I used satin black.

Might be a stupid question but once you’ve painted them do you apply a coat of lacquer aswell?

And you’re happy with the wear I gather? I actually sprayed bench seats for an old XP falcon years ago and never had a problem (until the ex totalled the car but that’s a whole other issue).
