mk 3 caddy maxi life rear panel removal ?

Post by Dr268 »

I posted this in the maxi section without any real joy

how do you remove the lower plastic panels on the rear inside of a maxi life

I have went out and had another go and I must be doing something wrong as its a complete wrecking match at the minute

I started on the rear drivers side above the jack hatch, the mounting clips seem as if they are never meant to be removed, to date 4 have snapped off the panel with no way of replacing them

I see no hidden screws to remove the panels in a complete unit.

YouTube has failed to enlighten me

I don't want to go any further as at this rate I may as well remove them with a crowbar

any ideas ?

What tools are you using?
I'm fairly sure those panels are held on with the same expanding clips as are on the door cards.
You need a V shape trim tool to force the clip to open before it will detach from the vehicle body, pulling on the plastic panel will only damage the clip mounting points.

thanks for the reply

I am using a trim tool kit

the top "clips" above the jack hatch almost look like a moulded mounting spud that goes through the top panel (near speaker) and then melted at the back and as such welded on. When prised with a tool the spud breaks off the outer panel after a lot of force is applied.

I am becoming ever more convinced that the whole side is assembled then fitted as one unit but I have yet to work out where it is fixed to the vehicle

how are people getting in to replace the rear speakers ?

I will get a couple of pictures up tomorrow, will probably explain it better

thanks
