Another day another dud injector for me... This time going down an incline at 50 mph with only slight accelerator pressure. It lost power and stuttered for a few seconds before the glow plug light started flashing. It's the #2 injector, which I replaced with an 03L130277S 2 years (17,000 miles) ago. The injector was second hand, but only 2 years old from the date stamp at the time I bought it so I assume it's managed less than 40 k miles overall. Pants.

Anyway, when I have time I'll hack it apart to try to see what the difference is between this and the B variant. This might give a clue as to the failure cause. Not that it really matters... As a final hack, I'm going to try unscrewing the piezo actuator in-situ and replacing just that, without removing the whole injector, Just to see if it's possible. This would make it a far easier road-side fix.

Meanwhile, my #1 injector's on 165,000 miles now and still going strong. How is this possible?

Friday injector 3 went on me, AA recovered and replaced for £802 using genuine parts. From what the mechanic said the AA parts and garage cover will cover up to £500 of the repair. This seems to be the be option for the issue

Number 3 went yesterday. Luckily I was only 5 minutes from home so was able to nip home and replace it.

Does anyone recommend reconditioned units and a place to buy from?

Thanks

I was reading a research paper the other day that suggested the piezo stacks on these injectors could be regenerated; I don't know how "reconditioned" injectors are actually reconditioned though.

It might be worth just keeping an eye out for second hand injectors with a recent production date stamp - sometimes these can be had quite cheaply.

Recon injectors aren't worth the time or money, you'll just end up replacing them again 6 months later.

Buy new from PF Jones, they're much MUCH cheaper than VW but are the exact same product https://www.pfjones.co.uk/volkswagen-ca ... 40080.html.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you know if the Continental branded parts are identical to the Siemens ones i e.. is it the same production line?

Yeah, I'd imagine so, Continental own Siemens VDO.

Well, a couple of days after injector 3 going number 1 followed suit. I have now gone through 6 injectors over the last three years and haven't covered much over 10k miles.

Enough is enough and I've got rid of the pile of sh1t today....

Sorry to hear about that... were the failed injectors reconditioned, second hand or new when they were fitted to your van? Not that it's your problem any more!

Can I ask if you replaced any ‘incase’ they went after the first two needed replaced?
Is this something worth doing after two of mine have gone within 6 months on the same model as yours.

No always replaced as required. I've sold it now due to the ongoing expense and extreme inconvenience
