Alloys

Post by Jayzer »

Hi,
I’m looking at putting Golf R MK7 alloys 17” on my caddy, the tyres on them are 225 45 17. Will they be ok for load rating?

Welcome to the forum.
225/45R17 is only part of the tyre spec, you have left out the load and speed ratings. The minimum load ratings are different for different Caddys, SWB Vs Maxi, commercial Vs Life, manual Vs DSG....

Yes you can get tyres in those sizes that will be load rated correctly.

The ones that are currently fitted may not be suitable. You will need to look at your weights tag on the door jam and look up the rating code on those tyres and see. Please note the rating can be different front to back.

Hi mate cheers for reply.
I have a 1.6 c20 tdi manual the load rating of current wheels is 640kg.
The golf alloys have no load rating on the back but the tyre is a 94W which my caddy currently is a 91V?

No.

Read the weight plate and work out what you need to have.

Eg mine van has this 1 is the front axel.
2 is the rear. Divide by 2 and that is the load rating you need for that axel.

As you can see a 91 would not be legal on the rear of mine.

I run 91 front and 94 rear.

Though I do currently run 102/104 as I am on my winter wheels that I did have on my T4.

Weight chart.

My rear axle is 1230kg so means 615kg which would be 91 but my problem is the alloys I have are from an mk7 golf r but have no load rating stamped on back of alloy and can’t find out what the rating is?

Have a look at the axle weights for the Mk7 Golf R, if those are original wheels they will be rated for at least the heaviest axle weight in the vehicle range.
