Ha ha, can’t be doing that. Image

Went along to a local car meet/show (Wheels int Lakes) with a few mates today, which was great not having to set off super early and drive for miles. Cool little event and the track action was enjoyable.
I always love seeing the local cars that people have tucked away.
Van came away with cleanest engine, which I’m happy about as the engine/engine bay is probably the part I’m most proud of with the van, and the one thing that is most overlooked, with people not knowing what they are looking at and thinking it’s just the same as all those thrown together engine conversions.

Just sat and read your whole build before taking on a similar engine conversion myself! What an amazing van you have! Was just wondering if you could tell me the part numbers for the fuel tank and lines please bud?

That engine bay is never ending, the more you look the more you see. You’ve done a lovely job mate, if mine can look 1/10th of what yours looks like I’d be happy as hell!

Is all your carbon like battery cover fuse box cover etc all custom lister?

Hi @Josh_Autotec welcome to the forum. thanks for taking your time to read through the whole thread, and for your kind words. That must have taken you some time Image, I hope it gave you plenty of inspiration.
If you have a look at Doc’s engine conversion thread (link below), that lists all the part numbers you’ll need. Good luck with your own conversion, by looking for the fuel tank you’re starting the right way. Image

Hi @Dislexicdonkey ha ha yeah there are details I forget I’ve done ImageImage one day I’ll have to try and count all the separate pieces of carbon. With the exception of the engine cover overlay and coolant reservoir cover everything is custom mate, some original trim that’s been skinned, some full composite parts and some that I’ve designed 3D printed or made and then skinned. I dread to think the hours myself and Paul at C6 Carbon have put into the bay, I definitely think it’s been worth it though. 🫣

With me being finished with shows for the year I’ve put the Audi wheels back on as it makes driving the van a lot more enjoyable (not having to worry about marking the gold wheels).
Now it’s time to sort out the Rotiforms I think. Pretty sure I’m going to go for Carbon rims, body coloured barrels, brushed smoked centres and gold spiked hardware (even though it’s hidden). It sounds a lot going on but think it will work well and tie them fully to my van, plus the barrels and hardware won’t be seen unless having a real look at them.

I noticed a while back that my side door lower runner was starting to wear the paint slightly. So as I had a couple of days waiting around over in Hexham while my daughter did a course, I thought I may as well take some stuff with me, find a random car park and use the time to sort the issue.
After noticing the issue I got the genuine VW repair strip (AKA the most expensive piece of stainless steel the world has ever seen), but when I tried it against the van it was going to look horrendous. So using some Carbon laminate I had, I covered the top surface and then added heli tape over the Carbon (to help stop the runner wearing the laminate), and painted the sides black. I repainted the body where the wear had occured and fit the trim. Whilst the lower runner was off I also added some laminate to these.
Happy with how it looks and pleased I’ll no longer get any wear, which would ultimately end with corrosion setting in.

Hi Chris ,While giving my van a good clean and shine at the weekend I noticed that the same had happened to my van. I wasn’t aware there was a repair strip (which is great ) could you send me the part number for the most expensive bit of stainless please.
I’ve already got the paint etc but this part would be ideal and save the paint.

Hi mate, part number is 2K0843713, be seating when you ring to order, and take some tissues to wipe away the tears when you collect it.

i can feel the bank card dissolving as I type . Thanks for the sharing the part number Chris. These vans can be an expensive hobby but better for your health than standing in the pub every weekend.

No problem.
Yeah I couldn’t agree more mate, some people waste their money on drink, smoking and other things, I’ll waste mine on my van.

Toffee delights

Got the Rotiforms all stripped down today, and only have to remove 4 snapped bolts which I didn’t think was too bad out of 160. I’m not sure if the wheels have been stripped previously (it doesn’t appear so with original stickers on) but they strangely had 2 different fitting sizes, one front wheel was M8x25 and the other M8x20 with a few 25’s here and there. Got to love American build quality Image.

The spec is currently 9x19 ET45 on the front and 9x19 ET49 on the rear.
With 2 barrels being cracked, I need to buy 2 new barrels, so I’m going to use the opportunity to narrow them. I’m not a fan of stretched tyres and 215/35 on the 9’s was no good IMO.

I’m going to use the current 6 1/2” rear barrels on the front which with the 1 1/2” lip’s will make them a 8x19 ET 32. I’ll then get new barrels for the rear in 5 1/2” which with the 2 1/2” lip will make them 8x19 ET36, or I may stagger them with 6” barrel to make 8.5x19 ET43.

To stop the sliding door panel rubbing on the wheel rim when I have the Rotiforms on (with having the Caddy Life door panel installed), I’ve extended the sliding door rear roller today. This should hopefully throw the door out another 10mm when opening, which will give ample clearance.

To do so I took 2 door rolllers and cut the roller sections off at different points, one just before the radius and one at the plate join. The longer parts were then welded together, ground back and painted in PJ1. The top side I’m going to skin in Carbon (obviously), once that’s done I’ll get it swapped over and see measure the difference on the van.
