Chassis legs fully welded in now and the rear subframe bolts in nicely. With about 10mm of clearance between the top of the subframe and the floor of the van. Image

Next to modify the outer (existing) chassis legs to allow the top suspension arm to clear. I then need to start thinking about how I’m going to mount the shock absorbers to the inner wheel arch. I’m liking the oem feel so may try and reinforce the rear arches and mount the A3 top brackets in the arch.

Things then left to do:

-Propshaft , sort out mounting bracket for Center bearing and cut to correct size and send off to be welded and balanced.

- Fuel tank. I’m thinking a custom aluminium (any recommendations would be gratefully received)

-Haldex wiring and additional fuel sender wiring

- Abs pump. Compatibility?? I’m thinking that the original caddy may not support the rear wheel speed sensors or the haldex esp?

- Exhaust! Standard again? (Well modified standard r32 if that makes sense)which actually sounded really good with the sports cats. Or go custom??

- Paint the underside.

And whatever else I’ve forgotten about?

Great build and loving the level of fab work you are doing as well, was reading this thread last night and happened upon the above quoted discussion with NZDubnurd a long while back which is what I'm currently up to on my EA113 conversion where I'm also going from manual to DSG- I have the ground pin I'm replacing with the Mechatronics Units Pin- did you end up having to code anything for the DSG on the J519? From what I've researched elsewhere its coded into the ECU which is from my donor but the BCM (J519) from the caddy- so theoretically I shouldn't have a drama regarding the coding side- maybe the gateway module might need a tweak is what I'm thinking? I'm currently chasing a no start at the minute and some communication gremlins to the ecu between modules but vagcom can communicate with it which I'm working through at the minute.

@MWMRacing - So from memory the coding is pretty basic. Tick the box on the installation list in gateway for auto transmission! My engine ecu was already matched to the box but you may need to change something in engine. bcm I don’t recall doing any coding for the DSG, if you have fitted a multifunction steering wheel with flappy paddles you may need to change the coding then but it’s pretty self explanatory using vcds. I’m away this week but when I’m back il post on here the coding I used for mine. Hope that helps

That helps a lot, so ill give that a whirl, as I said there's a few niggles I'm chasing at the minute as I get closer to getting it to start for the first time (currently no crank so chasing that) but that was one of my biggest questions as one of the areas I was chasing, so thankyou! Image

Sounds like your getting there mate. Not telling you how to suck eggs but Might be worth plugging in vcds and doing a code scan, this will give you an idea what’s going on. Should have comms to everything my first non crank condition was down to the brake pedal switch not registering correctly. You could also crank the engine by bridging the solenoid wire to the 12v supply just to eliminate anything engine side. Poor earth dodgy starter etc

For sure- I've been doing exactly that, running through vcds and slowly ticking off errors, believe the brake pedal switch is part of it in my situation as well- so got the pinouts sorted to move the donor cars brake pedal switch into the caddy instead Image

@Azz03 thanks man. Certainly starting to take shape, prop shaft off Monday for modifying to correct length. Need to change my front ARB too as it’s not for 4 motion and fouls the prop flex plate…
Ha ha it’s always things like this you don’t think about when doing these sorts of projects.

Looking good, makes me want to buy a second caddy and drop a VR6 in it, trying to convince the missus she doesn’t need a car just a caddy with the seat conversion and a very loud right peddle :lol: :lol:
