Another White 1.6 TDI Caddy Work Van

Post by Doig5710 »

Here's my new Caddy, a 2012 1.6 TDI, it sat in a paddock for 10 years after getting in an accident, it got fixed but never put back together. I found it and have got it back on the road, but it's still got a few issues along with a massive list of things I hope to to to it to upgrade things slowly.
Because it sat outside with no front end on it for so long there's all sorts of front end connections which are quite corroded and I am going to slowly go through and replace the terminals as I get them.

Replaed so far
All 4 injectors
Cyl 3 glow plug - P0673 problem still there
Boost solenoid - P2563 problem still there
Wheels, but will be replaced again in the future
Steering wheel - new one still not working properly yet

First upgrade is maybe 1/2 done, have a Amarok MIB2 radio fitted and CP deleted which leaves a CP code but I'm ok with that for now, also need to change the GTE logo that comes up on startup.
Also needed to upgrade the gateway module, cheapest place was AliExpress and it seems to be working for now.
The other upgrades were a wireless phone holder/charger where I drilled a hole on the inside of the air vent and have a usb charger in behind where the power socket used to live, now it's another USB charger and also a high power USB C charger for my laptops when I need.

Also fitted a new steering wheel but I need to order a steering wheel adapter and a newer steering wheel module as well so nothing works yet.

Still need to connect microphone for Bluetooth calling and a reverse camera when I get more time.

Did you have to code in the new gateway module?

Changing a gateway requires CP to be removed as well as coding.

It’s the master part of the CP ring.

Sorry for the slow response, no the gateway just plugs in and works, no cp at all on it

So it had been going great. Since I put a stainless 2.5" downpipe on it and a generic towing spec tune from the local tuning shop on it.
However it turns out it may have been to much power for the little 7 speed dq200 gearbox and over the course of a day it went from a funny take off in 1st gear to unable to use 1st clutch at all and dropping pressure from 60 to 42 bar pressure in about 15 seconds which is way to fast according to the gearbox guy I spoke with Friday.
Codes when I scanned it were
006011 - Cluth 1 - Tolerance Limit Reached
006300 - Function Restriction due to insufficient pressure build up
002113 - Transmission fluid pressure sensor implausible signal
006293 function Restriction due to pressure drop

So after doing some friday afternoon and night research discovered that these gearboxes are a massive POS so instead of befitting another one which I figured was likely to do the same again very quickly because of the tune, I searched around and got offered a good deal on a 4WD B8 Passat DQ250 (I think) gearbox.
I'll put up a couple more posts of the conversion and what I needed to do once it's up and running again.

So have done a week of driving with the new gearbox in it.
Replaced the DSG thermostat because it was stuck open, got everything to do a service on it this weekend as well.
It does take off nicer than the dry clutch gearbox which is nice, however I'm not sure about what if any software update I'll need to do, only code is missing message from park brake module.
