Replacing my Android Auto USB socket

Post by makzimum »

For a while now the USB socket in my mk4 has been a bit dodgy. Android auto disconnects every now and again, but a bit of a wiggle and unplug and replug mostly seems to sort it out. Always manages to charge mind you, so I think it's just one of the data pins on the socket that isn't working.

Anyway, it's properly broken now and can't get it to connect at all.

I've had the socket out and it looks like there are 2 part numbers.

5G0 035 222 E for the socket/faceplate
5Q0 035 726 E for just the USB bit.

I've found both on ebay, although I'm assuming they are knock-offs.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/405240192017

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/196603797314 - looks like this is both parts together.

Or should I get the genuine bit for twice the price? https://www.lllparts.co.uk/product/5Q00 ... 5q0035726e

I'm sort of assuming I can just replace the part, but one of the ebay listings alludes to modifying a code to activate. Anyone know about this?

Thoughts appreciated. :D

If it already has it there and you are only replacing it then no coding nessacery I'd expect, even a Chinese one should be plug and play
