Now looking at a map to remove the adblue countdown.
Did you manage to drain the entire adblue tank? Probably 8/9 litre tank.

Have you had anyone clear the faults or can you do this yourself?

I'm sure by now you are an expert with this problem and considered the NOX sensor. It's an expensive part but does seem to be a common cause of these problems.

Though I don't have a dash light yet. I do regular scans and I have had an intermittent fault with insufficient SCR that I have cleared a couple of times.

I suspect I will be in your position at some point and trying to balance the expense of chasing a fault with alternative solutions.

I can't find any definitive answer to the question of MOT failure for adblue delete but that would be my choice when it comes.

It seems absurd that an engine would be designed to stop working for a fault that can persist without damaging the engine.

If you had a NOX sensor failure you would have fault codes, it is a common failure.

I think below threshold is down to adblue quality and or short running.

I don’t think adblue delete will affect MOT.

I drained the tank until no more would come out, around 8 litres came out, topped back up with the good stuff, no joy.

I had considered nox sensor, but It could have been a dead pump also, either way it would have cost a good chunk of cash to make it go away, and then something else could go and you're back to spending again.

I've had it mapped out today, problem solved for a one off payment.

Thought I’d chime in with my adblue story.

I bought a 2020 maxi a couple months ago and in the service history from November 2024 (at 120k mileage):

“adblue injector: replaced pipe and adblue injector to fix eml on dash and tested.”

So not sure if this is related to the same issue as others with the nox sensor. But that’s all the info I’ve got about it

I’ve been down that road myself, mate. The AdBlue countdown is a nightmare when you rely on the van for work. The two codes you’ve got are usually linked to the SCR system – either a dodgy NOx sensor or the pump starting to fail. Dealers often say “no fix” because they don’t mess with anything outside of swapping expensive parts.

On the delete side – yes, plenty of people do it, and it does get around the no-start. MOT is the grey area. The tester doesn’t have the tools to check if AdBlue is switched off, they just do the standard smoke test on diesels. If your van’s running clean, it usually goes through. The only risk is if they add more in-depth emissions checks in the future.

If you’d rather not go straight to a delete, some guys have managed to sort it with updated software or replacing the NOx sensor, but it depends on the van and year.

For what it’s worth, I’ve used these guys before https://adbluespecialist.co.uk when I was stuck, and they came out same-day to reset mine. Van’s still fine now.
