Forum access

Post by stu_b »

Hello and welcome to the new members
I just wanted to give a heads up in Docs defense as it seems he hasn't been online or late to fulfill upgrading or access

Firstly, this is a free site (to members) and as such it is privately monitored, run and handled mostly by Doc (at his expense - time and money)

Access approvals have to go thru the correct routine of 6/30 posts for access levels to prevent spam etc
This is pertinent to all members who wish to join / have joined (it's not a new thing)

One should be mindful of the quality and content of the contribution of such posts
A post that says "nice colour" or "hi, I'm a new member" wouldn't really count imo as a great contribution to the forum
Ask for some advice, offer some info or something with substance
Just something to think about in terms of your interactions with the forum and members

For example, over the past as a member I have seen new members come in, first post they straight up ask for access, doesn't work like that
Or, they post "nice colour" on 6 different thread posts and think this is sufficient for the first access level, again, doesn't work like that

As we are all aware, Doc hasn't been online for whatever reason (I would suggest personal as this is very out of character for him) which is strange as he is massive supporter of this forum, great contributor and imo this is his way to help others and bring others together (free) so we can all achieve great things

Ordinarily, access can take time for the approval process, but not the time frames people are experiencing of late
All I can say is be patient
If you can't find what your looking for here then seek an alternative, maybe contact VW direct
The Internet is a huge resource but often searches return you back to Caddy2K - there is a reason for that, the depth and knowledge of its members

So just wanted to say, be patient, be polite and hang in there
Sorry it is taking so long but there must be good reason for it

On closing, the above thoughts, sentiments and expressions are those of myself, they are my own opinions (rightly or wrongly) and in no way have I been asked to write them - please don't shoot me, just have some respect for Doc as it would appear he has other issues on his plate atm

Doc is a good and fair man (not that I have personally met him) but this is thru interactions I witness here with all members

All good things come with time

Just to add, as someone waiting for approval it is evident that venting about this issue or increasing the amount of posts in the hope it will speed up the process is maybe not the best idea! As you say, it appears that Doc is fair and consistent and obviously has a life outside the forum.

Hopefully doing as requested in the new member rules, posting the required amount of times (6/30) and replying to that thread will be enough to warrant approval as and when it is possible.

What would be really appreciated is confirmation of whether new members awaiting approval should remain ‘active’, e.g keep posting in the mean time or whether this might overwhelm Doc as and when he’s able to get back to it? For example, I’ve posted a dozen times and confirmed I agree to the new member rules, is it best to just hold fire or keep posting? I think that’s what most new members are confused about, we’re not sure if we’re spamming for the sake of it.

Cheers for taking the time to write the original post.

You are free to post as many times as you wish. When you reach the 30 post count you can post once again in the New Members section and request full access.

Yeah Tim, as fisherman's friend said, free to post as much as you like because that may help answer your problem or curiosity abt something where another member can help

Sadly, till Doc approves membership (again, the success rate isn't reflected on how many posts you've done PAST the 6/30 threshold) you won't be able to access certain restricted areas

As per guidelines, once attaining the 6/30 posts one can reach out for approval etc - just it's not happening at the moment, it's nother personal to you or new members it's just handled by Doc

I'm not sure what's going on with Doc but fair to say this would be unusual to say the least so my guess is it's a personal matter that is more important.
This is preventing him from input here, including approving new members

I am not much help to anyone as I am a co plate nunce when it comes to cars so like all members we come here seeking help, guidance and advice ... I probably require more than the average
