Water Pump Choices

Post by Steve1262 »

Hi all.
I'm looking to get my cam belts done on my 80k 2013 Maxi 1.6.
I don't know for certain if they've ever been done as there is no service history with my van, hopefully, if someone has changed them they may have written the mileage on the belt.
If however they need doing, what are peoples opinions on the type of water pump to have fitted. Do I go with the full electric one or the one without the electric gate in it? I understand the gate assists with the warm up period and I have heard of people fitting an aftermarket non electric one.
I think this is done because electric one can be prone to going faulty but perhaps someone may put me right.
Cheers.

Are you sure a 2013 had the option?

No not yet. . . . I'm only going what others have told me so far and trying to do the research before the job gets done.
Looking in the Haynes manual, there is a procedure for removing the "electric coolant pump" on the 1.6 common rail engine.

Be aware there are two pumps fitted the main one and the electric aux pump that runs after shutdown stopping hot sports.

What page of Haynes manual?.

Ah, that makes sense then because I've often wondered what I hear running after I've switched off.
It's page 3.8 that refers to an electric circulation pump which is obviously the one that runs on.
