Apologies to bring back this old topic of remaps & dpf egr opinions but I’m looking into map options for my 1.6 tdi cr 75.
Is there any benefit to getting dpf & egr mapped out without physically removing/ blanking. Also will it realistically pass a mot in this day and age with either or both? I don’t currently have any problems with either but do a lot of short journeys so the consideration is for longevity of dpf & the likelihood of having to force regens etc.
I’m definitely looking to get stage 1 map & possibly hardcut but unsure on egr & dpf.
The topic seems a bit of a minefield online

One redeeming feature of these engines is that they're exceptionally good at burning off DPFs at low vehicle speeds. I bought mine at the start of the 1st lockdown 5 years ago and did nothing but short runs for the first 6 months or so. As long as, once a regen has started, you keep driving (normally, gently, whatever) until it's finished it will be fine. This normally takes 10 minutes or so, even at town speeds. It won't regenerate at idle, though. Long/high speed runs don't help at all, unless they coincide with a regen. It's also worth bearing in mind that, MOTs aside, they also function as a catalytic converter so your van will smell if removed. They don't really restrict power that much at all, until you get to very high air flows.
I've been considering deleting my EGR though (and a stage 1
), not as easy to replace the EGR by the roadside as a failed injector. Currently, vehicles are not tested for NOx emissions (which the EGR's purpose is to control) as part of the MOT in the UK, so as long as it's not obviously been modified you should be fine.
And yes, there's a huge amount of misinformation online. We all get things wrong sometimes I suppose.

defo worth doing, the ecu's need to be opened up and chipped like the old school ecus but once done they transform the engines. But one thing I will say some places only remap with a DPF and EGR delete to release more power....and for us less things to go wrong.
mines be done for 4 ish years now and never had a problem come MOT time even with a straight through pipe and back box delete

What year is it? Mine is a 2014 1.6 Caye and they didn't have to open it. It's unlocked via software.Baldspeed Racing wrote:defo worth doing, the ecu's need to be opened up and chipped like the old school ecus but once done they transform the engines. 100% worth it. You double the power.
I got my egr deleted too. Dpf works fine, it regens every 750km.

Mines a 2013 dude, but the first drive when it was on the Revo tune was night and day difference. My EGR then failed a while later so had a local company delete it along with the DPF and again made so much difference, I fitted the exhaust delete a few days later for a bit more turbo whistle
