Cargo area Interior Light

Post by Jasonpaul »

I've got a 2016 Caddy 2.0 tdi startline mk4 and I'm trying to work out how to switch off the interior light in the cargo area?

It's Ex British Gas and it's got 6 strip lights that seem to go on and off with the original interior light in the back of the van. So if the van is unlocked like I'm sat in it having my lunch all the lights are on in the back then after 10 minutes they switch themselves off.

Just wasting electricity but I can't figure out how to switch them off

Maybe a VCDS job ?

What's happening when you turn your original light off?

Normally the actual light is the rocker switch, just to confirm when you press on the original light it moves both ways but it doesn't alter the lights?

Sorry I'm not explaining myself very well.

I can turn the rocker switch in the back off but the 6 strip lights stay on.

I guess British Gas didn't think there was a need to turn their cargo lights off

I might have to get an auto electrician in to fit a switch on them

Thanks for your help

Our 2013 ex bg cargo lights do not work with the interior light rocker switch, they only come on when you unlock the van or open a side loading door, they then stay on for 5-10 minutes or until the van is locked. It does seem a wierd set up but works fine for me. I should have had a look at how it was wired when changing the head lining in the load area but it never crossed my mind.

Looks like they have tapped directly into the light wiring, bypassing the switch. You can add a switch to have the same functionality as OEM light. A quick search will show you some pictures.

I’m JUST about to carry out a conversion to my 2015 ex bf caddy maxi and have the exact same problem. I wasn’t aware they turn off after time so that’s something. Does anyone have a link or source for where to add in a switch for them? I also have two wires coming out of the side, above where the jack is stored. Inside to the right of the back doors. Anyone know what this is for/was for?
