I have a 2016 Caddy Maxi and want to fit a reverse camera. What wire is the reverse light on? I have an after-market stereo-fitted. i hope someone can help.

I’m just about to start this job on my 2015 maxi. Have been informed that the best way is to take a direct feed from the fuse box instead of tapping into the reverse light. Apparently the image can flicker if you just go from the light. Let me know how the installation goes.

Yes I would use the signal from the reverse light to switch a relay and power the camera from the fuse board behind the main light switch.

What stereo is it?

And are you looking to power it from the reverse light, or are you looking to find a way to detect when reverse is activated?

My Kenwood one is the latter, the camera cable contains all the power and data so it doesn't need any special wiring done to set that up.

I need to actually sort the automatic show reverse camera switch myself though. There's a feed but I'm not exactly sure where to connect that wire (and also the hand brake too, as at the moment you can't configure settings because it doesn't know the handbrake is on.

Did you wire to reverse light and if so did you use a relay? About to do my 2015 and from what i have seen you need a relay if going to reverse light.

Just for anyone interested, the head unit needed coding. If you get an error message when you select reverse saying camera not available, the head unit is ready for a camera but if nothing appears on the screen when you select reverse, it needs coding. Should be fitting my camera today and taking a feed straight from fuse box so shouldn’t need a relay.

Was the coding to turn on the rev camera a headunit coding or VW coding? Also did you 330 plug straight into the existing plug or did you need an adapter plug? I didn't get any adapter with mine as i thought they were only needed for earlier caddys. Mine is 2015 same as yours.

Hi. I’m not sure as someone did the coding for me. My 330 plugged straight in and didn’t need an adapter. Just trying to fit camera now. Did a test wire up and it’s working perfectly but looking for a space in the fuse box with a switched 12v has beaten me so I’ve given up for now and doing a bit of research.

Could try fuse 53 and tap that. i believe that socket is only on when switched unlike the front 12v socket.

if I recall correctly, it should be a white and blue wire going to the reverse light, just above the right rear wheel arch. I tapped into that to trigger a relay that was powered by 12V from the fuse box, which fed the camera. Pro tip: ground the camera to the metal of the rear wiper motor, that way it's one less cable to pull through the door.

It might be a PITA but it's such a quality of life upgrade to have a reverse camera!

On my 2013 Caddy maxi the reversing lamp wire is black+blue (I suppose it might have changed in 2014? The white+blue appears to be side/fog lamp).

You are right, it's black and blue, still is on a 2015. Also you can use the ignition feed on the rear wiper plug instead of going all the way back to the fusebox, pins 1 and 5 are +12v and ground. I used that for my rear camera power and the blue/black for a trigger.

The cayx could be 102hp, my cayd is. Maybe the Skoda boys would know on their forum (briskoda) as I'm not sure about those. Pity about the oil pump belt, I didn't know the 1.6 had a wet belt for the pump (assuming it was a wet belt) - now i have to consider mine as I would have the same thing?
