Water in passenger side footwell

Post by tim04 »

Hi,

I’ve searched other threads and this seems to be an issue but could do with help with some questions. I noticed a pool of water behind the passenger seat so removed it along with the carpet and the insulation, which was soaking. I checked the plastic scuttle which clips into the bottom of the windscreen and noticed it wasn’t seated all the way along and there was dirt in the channel it clips into. I cleaned the channel and it is now clipped in all the way along. All the drain holes seem to be clear. There doesn’t seem to be any evidence of water coming through the cabin air intake.

Could the issue be caused by the insecure plastic scuttle? Do I need to get blanks for the unused holes for the (left hand drive” windscreen wipers, allowing the water to drain from the slot next to them? Anything else I should be thinking about?

Thanks in advance.

Has the windscreen been replaced at some point. Apparently it happens that a poorly fitted screen will let water into the footwell.

My wife has a mini countryman and it had this issue, was the door seal on the body aperture, not gripping tightly to the spot welded edge and water was running inside the seal channel where it pushes onto the body opening over that edge, and running down, then inside. I took it off, it came away too easily, proving my theory - I filled the inside bottom groove of the seal channel of the rubber itself with a bead of black tiger seal all the way round and squeezed it back onto the body lip, has been perfect since, even in torrential rain and car wash.
