Caddy dash cracking around airbag

Hi Caddiers.
We are in the far off land of NZ, and have a Caddy Maxi 2014, which looks pretty good.


We have had a little issue lately though and im wondering if anyone else has been through it.
Basically the dash has cracked around the passenger side airbag, this should be a WOF fail in NZ, but the dealership passed it anyway.
Apparently they went to VW Germany to ask if they could replace the dash but Germany has said no, its all on me as we are outside the 3 year warrantee.
Has anyone else been through this?
We have local laws about goods being "fit for purpose" and i dont think 5 years is a reasonable timeframe for a dash to crack out like this so will be fighting to get it done. I just need to know if anyone else has successfully had VW replace their dash outside of warrantee.

Hi mate. Gutted to hear about your dash. Nice van though!!
I’ve never heard of anything like that before personally, both on and off this forum. Over here, we have the consumer rights act, part of which states goods must be of ‘satisfactory quality’. But this is open to interpretation as I’m sure it is in NZ.
If you’re not having joy with the dealer I’d try taking it up with VW NZ. it may add weight if your van has a full VW service history too, and seeing as how it’s a potential safety concern, they should act.

HI just found this post did you get it sorted. As i have crack identical to yours it just suddenly appeared in same position as yours . Thinking of trying sugru moldable glue to fill crack Any ideas how to repair would be helpful Many Thanks

I have just found this thread, and unfortunately, I have exactly the same problem in exactly the same place!!.....Did you ever manage to fix the issue.

Hi still have crack in dash has not got any bigger so learnt to live with it
