question about a radio upgrade retrofit
Hi guy sorry couldn't post this in the relevant place as i dont have full access yet to the other forum channels a 2017 jetta was dropped into the yard this evening and i spotted this head unit in the car so i whipped it out. its a vw mib std2 pq nav radio full size radio not just a screen... now ive came across my first hurdle the wiring plug is different but i think i can make an adapter loom as ive the plug from the original car still in yard. is it possible once ive made a adapter loom will this work or am i gonna come up against some security feature again sorry for posting here

Firstly it will want the code so won't work till you have that available to enter when it's been disconnected. You get three attempts so don't be tempted to play with it until the correct code is known.
Next if your van is an early one, the canbus is different so the later stereos never shut down properly and drain the battery overnight if fitted to an early van. I think it changed over in 2014?
Nice stereo though btw.

well here's a curve ball i made a adapter loom well i used the factory plug and a length of the wiring from the jetta loom i removed the other unused plugs from the connector. Luckily i had a cheap adapter harness i had lying about from another aftermarket vw radio. So i used that to plug into the vans own loom and that changed the placement of the power and ground instead of in the middle its was moved to the top right if looking at the plug tried the power button and it powered up but i had no sound then i remembered i didn't have the speakers connected they were still in the vans own plug so i popped the speaker plug out of the vans connector really easy two small plastics tabs and clipped that into the jetta's radio plug and hey presto i had sound.
now i did look into this whole component protection thing but weirdly i never got any prompt for a pin or had the component protection on the screen it just worked straight away as if i put a factory radio into the van. Now you are right the radio doesn't shut off with the key but i need to look into this as i only had one ground and one plus wire connected i see there are three wires which i presume are ignition live constant live and the ground.

Re: question about a radio upgrade retrofit
MK4 is 2015-2020, mines a facelift MK3 and so is yours. (2010-2015) but it's weird that it never wanted a code.
There isn't a switched live on the harness so the stereo needs a canbus command to shut it down. On yours it could mean the stereo keeps the canbus system awake permanently so never lets the BCM shut down properly and drains the battery.
You'll just have to see I guess.
