Hi all,
Since I'm unable to search majority of the forum, I'd like to ask if anyone installed Touran headlight leveling parts?
As far as I could investigate there's 4 sensors fitted on the Tourans' suspension. Is it possible to fit it to a stock suspension Caddy mk3? If yes, is it necessary to do any kind of programming, or is it "plug and play" with the Touran headlight set without interfering the car's software?
I seem to be able to find xenon headlights but noone is selling the leveling sensors. Any idea why that could be?

Xenon auto-leveling in mk3
Yes, fitted gas discharge headlights into my 2010 pre facelift mk3.
There are 2 sensors, one front and one rear, both on the left hand side. Front’s a straight fit, rear needs a little mod to make it fit as there are no mounting points for the unit.
You’ll also need the headlight range control unit and all the wiring to go from the control unit to the sensors, the headlights and power.
And VCDS or something similar to code them into the CECM/BCM
Your CECM/BCM needs to support Xenon’s
Or….
You could fit the xenon’s with the original range control motor and re wire to work off your existing manual control in the dash.
Erwin.de is a fantastic place to download any and all of the wiring diagrams, etc.

Thank you @C Chis!
The range control you mentioned is in the headlight's electronic control box which is mounted on the bottom? In theory, if I buy a used headlight complete, it should contain it right?
Are you aware of any non-factory level sensor available?

Hi,
No, the range control unit I'm referring to is mounted inside your van, left hand side. The controller mounted on the headlight controls the stepper motor in the unit.
Depending on the year of your van eBay or autodoc.co.uk is a good place to look. I used part number 1K0941274B for my van. however... please make sure you do your research for your van and install. I have a mixture of Audi A3 Quattro, Caddy 2K and Golf R32 parts on the front of my van.
LLLparts are also a good free source of part numbers.

Re: Xenon auto-leveling in mk3
Thank you again! I understand now. The manual range control! The headlight only needs the control box and the level motor.
I'm afraid my Caddy's software won't support xenon lights at all, I haven't seen a single mk3 Caddy with stock xenon's.
I'll have to find out if I'm able to do the coding. I'll start with literally zero experience, however if it is possible to find the code online, I have great skills in ctrl+c & ctrl+v -ing
Not 100% sure I should start investing in this, but the need for a better headlight is there. Some say glasses are better - I'm done with eye tests. Not possible to improve vision as there's nothing to be improved. Only my oldschool H7 mirrored lights. Just a bit afraid of getting into it as this would be my first ever mod on a road legal vehicle. Like to keep it road legal (and safe for all)

Xenon auto-leveling in mk3
Always best to keep it legal! I went with manual adjustment to begin with and then upgraded to level sensors later on.
The light output is much better, although not as bright as some of the newer headlights.
Items I had to upgrade/replace/fit :
CECM that supported Xenon’s (from an EOS)
Xenon headlights (Touran)
Front level sensor (autodoc)
Rear level sensor (autodoc)
Control unit in the cab Touran)
Additional wiring to all sensors, units and headlights
Coding in was the easy part, just a few boxes to tick.
Took a while to research and then source the parts, most were used parts to keep the cost down. I think I spent around £450 in total.
Always best to spend time researching, pondering and thinking about these kind of upgrades.
There are alternative halogen lamps that might give a brighter light, haven’t tried them though

Re: Xenon auto-leveling in mk3
The list you've provided here is gold for me, thanks!!!
I've tried the increased brightness H7 lights, they are kind of better than the non-increased ones, but no major improvement there. What it really highlights is the projection imperfection of standard stock headlights. It just makes it more obvious, there's a huge room for improvement there. I believe a stock projector-style headlight designed for H7 sources would also perform way better, more than likely perfectly for me, but that is not available on the used market at all. On autodoc I've found one single unit, a LH side one: https://m.autodoc.hu/van-wezel/1296942
However, no RH side part available which is weird, and it is RH traffic which is not my type of traffic either.
It's a bit frustrating for being left with 2 options for an improved night vision:
1: buy new car -> overkill, no other need, no unnecessary funds
2: xenon mod -> even if performed fully the right way won't be official (at least won't disturb anyone), lots of hassle, some costs
3: forgetting I have other options
I feel like I should go with #3 but I just can't. Even if I go to sleep with #3 I wake up with #2.
Also thanks for sharing experience on the "coding" part, I thought I need to embed scripts in the main software manually. According to your description I must be capable

Re: Xenon auto-leveling in mk3
I'm afraid you'll hear about me once I get there! Thank you so much for the assistance!
It must be nice to have OEM xenons, don't really get it why did they ditch this option for early editions. I know, money, but still! What if someone would have wanted to pay for it?! Technology was there already...
