Sdi>tdi driveshafts

Post by Caddy Rob »

I have swapped my sdi engine and gearbox to a tdi with 6 speed that I got from a touran.
Both 2008 models.
Changed steering rack, shocks etc.
But driveshafts do not fit! Drivers side is way too short!
Tried to change cv joint from touran ones to fit on the caddy ones but the splines are a different size so won’t fit.
What are my options?
Tried the driveshaft shop and they can make me some but they’ll be £600+.
Will a pair from a caddy tdi fit?
Can I get some from another car like a golf etc

Your SDI will have 50mm struts and more powerful versions have 55mm.

You can change the front struts (and the bigger brakes options are available then) then the Touran driveshafts should fit.

If you still have 15" wheels, then you can't increase the brakes beyond the 280mm disc size.

@stp
If u have a larger wheel, can u stick with the smaller OEM brakes .... ??
You "don't" have to upgrade unless u wanna stop quicker right

Of course, yeah mate. There's very little room between the standard 280 brakes and the 15" wheels so the brakes can't be increased without changing the wheels but you can change the wheels and not change the brakes.

Some vans came with 16" and some with 15" depending on engine size. 1.6 Vs 2.0.

Ahhh good to know
I guess a garage would happily put new wheels on but not necessarily say anything about the brakes
Needs to be road worthy n legal
We don't have such strict mot checks here in Queensland Australia 🦘 (luckily or unluckily)

I expect you're not too different from us, Norway is a lot stricter. We can have any wheel size as long as they don't poke out of the arches, the tread is of sufficient depth across the tyre and all the way round and brakes are operating correctly for example.

We get reruns of an Oz program on motorway cops and they seem pretty strict on requirements to drive but not really worse than on the UK roads except we hardly see any coppers now.

As one Scottish comedienne said "they're usually in a lay-by with a speed gun in one hand, and a bacon roll in the other"
