Audi A3 seats 2016 issue powering them up

Post by Kirk »

Hi all

Hope you guys can help me out. I purchased some Audi A3 seats to transfer in to my 2018 caddy. Was all ready to go but needed to power up the seats to move the seat rails to mount them.

For the life of me I can not get these things to power up! I've even tried upclipping the motors to power directly from there and nothing.

I'm usually pretty good at this stuff but I'm at a loss, are the seats fused? Need the ECU? Need something else powered before they operate?

My plan was just to power the seats so they adjust and hook up the airbags, didn't care about heated seats

The seats are Australian if that helps.

Plugs look similar to below, although the red plug only had 2 wires from memory.

Hello,

The red connector has a red (+) and brown (-) wire that should be connected to the permanent supply (30)(only the red of course, otherwise you’ll have a short circuit)

Underneath the seat should be a control module which is connected to the buttons on the side of the seat.

If that module is missing, the motors won’t work afaik.

The colleague is right about the permanent power supply (terminal 30) as far as I know (the seat module if you have it) also needs communication (can/van twisted wires) to know that the ignition is on and to manage the following commands given by the switches, heating, movements in different planes of the seat. A connection diagram from the donor car can help you more.

The CAN signals are not necessary for movement of the seat afaik. In my Tiguan the seat can be moved forward and backwards without ignition on.

Would the seat module be mounted to the seat not elsewhere on the car? I can't see why that module would be removed if it is mounted to the seat? Any tips on what it looks like or is it just part of the seat control panel which is there and in tact.

Thanks!

The module should be underneath the chair roughly in the middle. Follow the wiring loom and you should find it.

I have not seen it mounted elsewhere in the car, not to say that it can’t be though.

When I had problems with the electrical installation and connections, I helped myself with an app from the Play Store, Carmin. I found something about the Audi seat, but I can't (don't know) post images and I still needed some data from the donor car.

Thanks everyone for the help! I don't see anything that looks like a control module nor does anything look missing.

Actual photos of the seats and wiring below

Thanks for letting me know. I didn't realise the UK had issues with Imgur :(

It doesn't look like there's anywhere to put a controller actually in those pics. Sorry I can't help as I've never had those seats mate.
