Well I am getting through the parts to change trying to chase down this vibration.
The ride is better with OE struts on. And the top mount noise has been eliminated.
There is still no play to be felt in the front wheel bearings so it’s time to change the drive shafts.
Ordered from J&R should be here for the weekend.
Everyone says you can’t feel a worn rack through the steering wheel as a vibration……. Soon it will be the only thing that won’t have been changed.
Ps yes I have swapped wheels.

I had a steering shudder / vibration that I chased for a while as it was only really noticeable when running fast on the continent. I was at the point of replacing the driveshafts when I thought about what had been changed since my last vibration free trip and the penny dropped about the brakes. Replaced the 5-month old discs and pads again and it was perfect.
Turned out the disc that had been on the n/s/f was bad.

Well,
I think I know where I went wrong I did not look at my tyres last weekend.
The underlying problem was the top mounts that were giving the vibration. That had been there with both sets of wheels. Then a bit of wear to the tyres before getting the tracking done.
When the tracking was done they mentioned that the camber was high on one side but that was most likely the strut top mount as it could be heard.
Well today during lunch I was just wanting to check the thread size on the ball joints so I had to put full lock on. Mmm that’s a knackred tyre. Put the winter wheels back on the front and went for a quick spin on the motorway. Vibration has gone. Will be running like this till I can get new tyres.

Had the old spare sand blasted and I then slapped some paint on.
Cheapest suitably load rated tyre on.
Back under the van. Wonder when I might see it again.

The two rear window areas done, one side 4 way stretch and a charge net

And the other side where the sink will be vinyl.

Now to sort the work tops out.
Well maybe next month or the next.

Top mount. Did not have a suitable ring spanner. Had tightened them before fitting but wanted to check.
