Best update this with a few month review.

And it’s not good news! It’s now been removed and back to original.

So this latest Gen 2 version of the virtual cockpit fitted well, functioned great, synced up to the canbus system very well, functions all great and the sat nav was flawless, great to have the OEM maps in big screen on the dash.

Downside… after about 4 weeks I noticed it shutdown and reset while driving. Came straight back on but was weird and a little worrying since the dash holds all the immobiliser information, had no idea if the engine would cut out or not restart on the next journey. This started to happen every other journey so more and more frequent that I could no longer trust it, VERY upset about it!

Eeeek !!

That sounds rather scary !

Hopefully not dangerous or terminally destructive.

Not something you can really live with though :(

Ah sorry i must have missed this (turns out I hadn't ticked the 'notify me' option). By original do you mean the factory unit i assume rather than 1st gen of the aftermarket dash. Thanks for the updates

Yeah I have the factory original dash fitted now.

Gen 1 dash would be ok if your retrofitting to an earlier style caddy, 2004 - 2015 shape, I’d say it should work and sync up ok for that. If you’ve got a 2015+ with more features then not so good. In hindsight the most annoying thing was the dash accessing the phone menu and calling people but not displaying it could be fixed using vcds by just unticking the phone option on instrument cluster.

Gen 2 dash was pretty flawless overall, the display was a much higher resolution than Gen 1 so looked better right off the bat! Was nice and smooth, no glitches etc but annoyingly would randomly switch off. I’ve spoke to a few others that have them and they have the same problem but doesn’t bother them, someone suggested turning off be auto updates to help?

Fair enough. doesn't sound ideal. I was only contemplating it as want waze on carplay to be more visible. I don't know why VW install the radio so low down so other option would be if i swap the heater & radio controls over I suppose. If it was personal vehicle I would be more inclined to put the hours in but its only a work wagon so was hoping for a more straight forward fix

That’s a shame as the satnav was one of the best things about it, it worked VERY WELL! Was almost the best feature.

I’m sure in the near future they’ll sort the glitches out to get them perfect.

Ok cool. I will buy another dash & swap radio & climate round. Want to hydro dip the trim bits anyway so no biggy cutting up, plastic welding etc. was just after an easier optio

Just looking at other options & this one has come up. Far more sales than the other seller & mostly good reviews (assuming genuine reviews)

Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out! £358.19 44% Off | 12.3''Digital Virtual Cockpit Instrument Cluster Gauge For VW Golf 6 7 MK7 Passat B7 B8 Tiguan Scirocco CC Jetta LCD Speedometer
https://a.aliexpress.com/_EjGpEul

Might take a punt if you want me to investigate. Just trying to work out which version to order but at least they have diesel option

I spoke to them, that’s the V2 version I purchased most recently and ended up returning when it started randomly switching off.
Again it’s a shame as it’s actually a really good product. keep in mind you need to cut some of the original dash away to make it fit also.

I’ve messaged a few places, some advertising caddy upgrades for over £1000 and none of them are suitable for my 2019 caddy high line. So it seems this the only option if you have a newer style caddy with the radar fitted.

Yeah that’s my predicament. It’s 2018 highline adaptive. I just think the radio is in such a stupid position for utilising nav / car play as it’s way too low. In my TT I modified the dash to move it up & lowered the hvac controls but having had the dash apart in this, the vents run too close to the back of the hvac to be able to mount the radio any higher. I have no issues with butchering the interior but re routing the vents is a step too far. Managed to fit scirocco gauges to a LHD dash storage compartment the other day which took a bit of cutting & melting so not my first rodeo lol

I was the same, thought sod it, I want it so will do whatever it takes

I’m tempted to refit the Gen1 version and disable the phone menu with vcds and that should be everything sorted but…. Meh I feel abit burned with the two failures so far.

Honestly if you can live with the occasional glitch (they claim updates will fix it but who knows) like 95% of the time or so it’ll work great, I mentioned previously how happy I was with the satnav option. I never did link up the CarPlay to this gen2 version but assuming it’s the same as Gen1, it worked and displayed well.

Yeah appreciate the honesty & proper feedback. After how much I’ve ploughed into it, I’m not losing sleep over £350 plus taxes so still contemplating taking a punt tbh. Worst case it can be swapped back so no major loss. Do you think the link I posted is a better option than to the original seller you linked? I still can’t get my head round which one I need (early or late scirocco, or golf 6)?
Thanks again for all the info
Also disabling phone shouldn’t cause any issues as can use ‘hey siri’ through car play

Yeah the one you sent will work just fine, I know others that purchased from them without issues, it’s the exact same item from the same factory I purchased from, I just went direct to the factory rather than a reseller.

You need the Scirocco version to work, mk6 Golf would work but wouldn’t fit the dash properly. The scirocco with very little trimming to the very top fits pretty good overall so is the best choice I think.

Few other issues I’ve mentioned but you might have missed….
Mpg isn’t accurate but some of the other fuel sections are.

You’ll loose your ad-blue screen so will just need to manually top it up every few thousand miles.

When you open the door it displays a scirocco of course lol.
