Today I installed a leather steering wheel on my Caddy and welded a bracket for a Lagun table.

Today I took the shocks, steering knuckles and driveshafts of the touran, had to take them off together as I couldn’t undo the driveshaft bolts😡.
Only got one side off of the caddy, what a f#€king ball ache. The three bolts under wiper motor are a bitch to get at!!
Had to split the bolt on the drop link to get it off.
Will have a go at other one in the morning and get the touran ones on.
After that think all the mechanical bits are done💪🏼 and I’ll be moving on to the electrics!

Today i removed the bulkhead, attempted to fit carplay but ultimately was not impressed with the quality of the screen so returned it (any recommendations for a mk3 caddy?) then sat in the back and enjoyed the fact i can chill in my van

I had a glow plug fail, No. 2. Bought a set of Bosch plugs and set to it. 1, 2 and 3 came out easy. No 4 was a complete tart. It fought all the way and had weird dings in every thread at regular intervals once it came out. Looked like it had been gripped with pliers before being fitted. Probably original plugs from new.

No idea how No. 4 came to have damaged threads but eventually I got it out and fitted the new set. All good now.

What next!

This year it's had full new front brakes, inc. calipers, pads and discs, new lower arms, bushes and ball joints, new gear shift, new stereo, new night breaker headlight bulbs, new led drl bulbs, new number plate bulbs, an engine cover, new AGM battery...

Man, save yourself the knuckle busting and just take off the two screws holding the wiper assembly in place.

🤣 yer my knuckles are mashed, did take wiper etc off the touran which did make it much easier but thought I’d manage without doing it on the caddy.
Will take them off this time though! Gotta come back off cos driveshafts don’t fit 😡

Started my caddy for first time after doing a sdi>tdi swap.
Now to work out why;
the radiator fans stay on
What size driveshafts I need to get
Why the shudder valve is active constantly
How to turn off the brake pad indicator
And why temp gauge doesn’t work?
Got a few lights up on the dash mainly for abs steering angle and door electrics.
Oh and stereo is in safe mode.
So still a way to go before I can drive it again!

Any change to the fuel efficiency?

Ive managed to get hold of another MK3 van thats got some engine problems buit is better specced than mine for next to nothing, so Ive started swapping parts over.

Swapped the plain sun visors to ones with mirrors and sliding covers

Swapped the interior light to the one with maplights, but it doesnt work with the door so needs investigating.

Fabricated a couple of blanking plates, the strengthening section for the tailgate bracket and tried out my novice spray painting skills on the blanks and strut repair brackets
