Battery box came out of an Audi.

Spent a few hours at the scrapyard yesterday hunting out my Touran dashboard and found the complete battery box in the Audi sitting next to the Touran, lids are a rare find as these are usually chucked when the guys remove the battery.

Easy fit, just clips right on to the existing base

I made the mistake of removing the base from the donor car only to find wasn’t needed
Well done on the ac and dash, just in time for snow

I did the same!

Cheers, the climatic controls seem to work, but can’t test the compressor’s clutch from the van as it’s not gassed up yet. Going to bench test the clutch tomorrow after another trip to the scrapyard, on the hunt for heated washers

Heated fan washers installed along with an OEM look to the wiring loom

Nice build Is the air con a lot of hassle or relatively straightforward fit?

Air con is straight forward if a bit time consuming.

Parts required
Heater/evaporator box
Climatic controls unit
Compressor
Condenser
3 refrigerant pipes and clips
New O-rings from VW (all available quite cheap, just tell the guy on the parts counter they’re for a golf )
PAG 46 oil for the compressor
Vacuum pump (only if you’re F gas approved)*
R134A or equivalent hydrocarbon substitute*
500ml of G12 coolant
And a bit of time....

*groupon voucher for a leak check and regas £40.00 if required

I managed to get the heater/evaporator box, climatic controller and box wiring from the same donor Caddy.
The compressor, the 3 refrigerant pipes and pressure sensor were also 2nd hand from the internet.

I wired the 16 pin connector to J301 from scratch as picking apart the donor loom was going to retake all day and it was roasting hot out that day.

Fingers crossed I’ve done it correct, will find out next week after my last refrigerant pipe arrives and I can get it vet tested and then charged up

Fan washers look so much nicer than jets...

Repair wire installed into F31 (spare repair wires connected into the fuse board for future grades)



I like a bit of paper with a wiring diagram on it, beats using your phone and you can scribble on it if need be

Nice build. How do you find the bike clamp?

Bike mounts are fantastic, quick and simple to use!

I’ve had 2 bikes and gear in back a few times now, so much better than just chucking them in!

I use a worx battery pressure washer to clean the bikes before putting them back in and the bikes are pretty much cleaned and dried by the time I get home, just a quick chain lube and they’re ready for the next ride.

Air con installed and working, woohoo!!!



Evaporator temperature is about perfect, blower outlet temperature is also heading in the right direction, down



New front panel fitted, old one fell to bits when I removed it, previous owner admitted to a slight dunt!



Compressor and hoses installed, waiting on a replacement line from condenser to evaporator. Engine supported on trolley jack as I had to remove the top engine mount to give enough access to fit the pipe work to the evaporator.



Ebayer sent me this one, listing said, as new, fully tested... oh, and the listing image cleverly hid the obvious... eBay has refunded me

At least some of the work can stay if upgrading
That’s not a job I would tackle anymore.
Especially as it’s a daily driver and our only transport. I have to plan some jobs for when nobody needs to go anywhere, nightmare
